3/5 stars. It was fine, nothing to scream about. Definitely needs upgrades. Water park needs a fresh coat of paint, sucks the beach wasn't on the actual COBA property but a short trolley ride away. The staff were very good to us as we had two young kids. I would likely comeback but stay at the AKUMAL resort instead it was beautiful and beach front. Late checkout was accommodated at no charge which was fantastic, but no chance for el la carte dinners as they were all booked up solid before we even arrived. So buffet 3x a day for 7 days was a bit much.

The Bahia Principe Grand Coba Resort (BPGCR) is the ideal destination for both families with children and couples; by all standards, its performance receives the highest rating 5. Everything stated below pertains to Expedia, the company with which we booked our vacation at BPGCR. An Expedia representative scheduled our departure to the airport for 4:20 AM the following day—informing us of this by phone at 4:00 PM—and allotted three hours for the trip, instead of the 1.5 hours stipulated in our contract. From the driver who arrived to transport us to the airport, we learned that BPGCR was the fourth stop on his route! This three-hour ordeal—bouncing along rough roads through the dark jungle can only be described as torture! While the OTA (Online Travel Agency) Expedia is ultimately responsible for the performance of its transport providers, its system prompts users to review the BPGCR itself. Consequently, travelers who experience issues with the transport company end up directing their dissatisfaction toward the BPGCR website rather than Expedia's! Based on our experience booking through Expedia.com, my rating for Expedia—across all parameters including organization, oversight, and accountability—is the absolute lowest: 2. This was a great vacation for my family (two teen boys), everyone had a great time. Because we booked through Expedia, we had access to two other resorts, and tried all the buffets and the other pools. The beach is accessible through the other two resorts (Tulum and Akamai), and the beach was okay (it’s kind of rocky) so bring water shoes if you are beach people. Staff was friendly and very helpful, and tried to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. Pool policies that we personally loved: You cannot place towels in the morning on chairs by the pool and leave them there, which for that policy alone, I would book again. It’s so frustrating to see towels on chairs all day when people aren’t in them and other people could be enjoying spaces by the pool. This was a great policy and I hope more places adopt it. My biggest suggestion was maybe more pool party music, there was a foam party one day and had some great music, so more fun music at the pool, but pretty minor in the scheme of things. Overall, this was a great hotel and we would go back again.

The staff was great but it seems that in order to save cost things al have changed in regards to food, entertainment and quality. Last time I was there things were great now it’s just average. Would reconsider going back, with all these changes I would consider going somewhere else.

We stayed at Bahia Principe Grand Coba and honestly had mixed feelings about the experience. Starting with the positives — the rooms were cleaned very well. Everything was always neat and tidy, no complaints there. The staff was friendly and welcoming, which definitely made the stay more pleasant. A special highlight is the kids club — it’s truly the best part of the resort. The activities were engaging, and it made a big difference when traveling with children. However, there were also some significant downsides. The biggest issue was the constant feeling of restrictions. The bracelet system makes you feel like you’re in a lower-tier category, with limited access to certain areas. This really affects the overall experience. The food was another disappointment. It wasn’t bad, but very repetitive. After a few days, it gets quite boring, and there’s nothing that really stands out. The resort is large, which is nice in theory, but in practice it can feel inconvenient, with many things located far from each other. Overall, it’s an okay option for a basic family vacation, but if you’re looking for more freedom, better food variety, and a more elevated experience, you may want to consider other resorts.

Our room was very clean and quiet. Buffet was very good and well stocked if you went earlier. Wait staff was so kind and helpful. Swim up bar should have two bar tenders - we felt so bad for the bars with one person working. Dinner reservations were difficult to get but the concierge was helpful and we did manage to get two nights out. We appreciated the shuttle to the beach and hacienda areas. Bike tour was so good - through that we found out where the snorkel gear and kayaks were but we should have done this the first day.

I want to start by saying that this review has nothing to do with the staff, every single person we encountered was amazing, kind, and attentive. A special thank you to the team at the Katok restaurant in the Akumal resort, especially Oliva, Obdulia, Francisca, the chef who came out to greet us, and the captain waiter. Their service truly stood out and made us feel very welcome. Unfortunately, my experience was deeply affected by the food. During my stay, I got food poisoning twice, and the last time was extremely severe. I experienced fever, vomiting, chills, and diarrhea. I am still recovering from it. It was honestly very difficult to travel back home in that condition. I had a fever while flying and could not keep any food down due to how upset my stomach was. This was very disappointing, especially because everything else, particularly the staff, was so wonderful. I hope the resort takes this feedback seriously and reviews their food safety standards so that future guests do not go through the same experience.

Hi, I enjoyed my stay. The resort and grounds are nice. The buffet food is meh but was able to find enough. The al a carte restaurants were better but tough to get reservations. They were all full even though they are only actually ~30% full when we got there. The beach is rocky unless you go down to Tulum resort. I am suffering from a lot of bites on my legs I assume were sand fleas from the beach. The entertainment was good on a couple nights, not so much on others. Nightlife is done a 11:30. No place to congregate or get drinks after that. Pay for the upgrade to use the other resorts as well or may get bored. Couple better restaurants at the other resorts. It was generally a good vacation but could use some improvements.

We stayed at COBA and it is outdated, Akumal, Tulum and Adults Only tequila looked much better and updated. Best advice I could give you is upgrade at the property so you can at least use all of the restaurants at Akumal Luxury
