Nice Stay

The cabin was very comfortable and had everything we needed. We didn’t have much time to explore the area, but we will be back! The host was very hospitable and communicated well. Very neat historic cabin. The host’s dogs were super friendly and sweet too!

Unique getaway

From the moment we were welcomed to this cozy cabin with plenty of firewood for the indoor and outdoor fires, we enjoyed exploring around outdoors as well as the nooks and crannies

Great Stay

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Cabin was clean and had all the basic necessities. Could use a microwave and a full size refrigerator, but otherwise well-appointed. The cabin and its history were very interesting. Host was helpful and easy to communicate with. Would definitely stay again.

One of our favorite getaways

This is our third time visiting, and we always love the time to disconnect a bit and just be with our family. The cabin is just great with it's historic presence combined with some modernizations. We enjoy hiking around the property with our dog and with Suzy's dogs leading the way for us We love coming here.

Second visit

This was our second visit to the Historical Dogtrot Chestnut Log Cabin and it was as wonderful as the first. This is such a beautiful area and the history of the cabin make it a truly unique experience. The owner is kind, generous and truly loves the property and hosting guests which only makes it better.

History buffs will love this place as we did.

We stayed four nights. The log home is even nicer than the pictures. Very comfortable and clean. Suzy the host was so hospitable, she had coffee stuff and and snacks available in the home for guests. Very peaceful setting, so easy to relax in. The front porch and rear patio were awesome to have our coffee on. We would definetely go back. We love history and antiques so this was a perfect place for us to stay.

Peaceful and quiet

We had a wonderful time this past weekend. The peace and quiet was fantastic. The dog had a great time running around and investigating. We enjoyed cooking dinner on the grill and relaxing on the patio. Thank you for your hospitality!!

Excellent Mountain Cabin Getaway

We had a great time staying at this authentic and modernized mountain cabin. The kids loved the quiet surroundings with excellent restaurants within a 15 minute drive. Farm dogs were wonderful! They would great my children each morning. Suzy was great. She responded to my every message. An incredible and relaxing stay.

This is a great place to. Everything was just perfect. Suzy (host) is wonderful. She really keeps the place stocked with all your necessities. Wonderful location and the 1860s cabin is amazing. Suzy and her son are wonderful people. They were professional, inviting, and helpful. The cabin, WOW!!! Accurate for the period (1860ish), with modern comforts, and not overdone; meaning, an assault on the mind with antiques and nicknacks. My son and I loved it and I look forward to bringing my daughters. This was a father & son weekend to hangout before he leaves for the Military. LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!

Amazing winter weekend in the mountains

Can't say enough good things about Maple Farm and Suzy our gracious host. Fresh flowers, Valentines treats for the kids, and even treats for our dog. The sledding outside the cabin can't be beat! The cabin itself defines cozy. Feels like stepping back in time, but bringing all the comforts of today. The trails around the property were great for taking in the fresh air and appreciating the quiet of the woods. We took a day trip to Appomattox Courthouse and stopped in downtown Lynchburg--about an hour away from the cabin. We would return any time! Thank you Suzy for making this great weekend possible.

Perfect getaway location with beautifully restored historic cabin

This is an exceptional property. The location is out of the way enough to give you the opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty of the area, yet close enough to enjoy the many wineries, breweries, cideries and tons of activities and events in the local communities. My husband and I enjoyed a quiet getaway, but this property would also be ideal for two couples or a family. The cabin is beautifully restored - the charm and history remain with just enough modern amenities to make things easy and convenient. The owner is charming and responsive; directions and instructions were detailed and accurate. Would recommend arriving first time in daylight - country road might be a little daunting in the dark. Once you have seen it once, though, it is easy and the road is well maintained. We had a terrific time. Highly recommend!

10 STARS!!

This cabin is AMAZING especially if you love history. We just so enjoyed it and the creaky floors. Suzy has thought of EVERYTHING and not too much at the same time. That couch!!! I could spend my whole day IN it. Such comfy beds, soft towels and SHARP knives!!!! Never get sharp knives at a rental. She left us a bottle of wine, fresh local apples, chocolate, the makings for smores and the fridge had condiments. My only comment to other renters would be that there is no microwave or toaster, but we made to. Also, we brought our own TV and the wi-fi was superb. If I could give it more than 5 stars I would and Suzy too!

Rustic with modern amenities

WE loved this little place in this historic house. The house was nicely refurbished, with added modern conveniences, There wasn’t TV to watch, but that is exactly what we wanted for our getaway. We liked the fact that we could have wi-if to look up local attractions. The house has split unit heating and air in the rooms, so we could adjust temperatures as needed. New modern bathroom was very nice. There isn’t much privacy as we could hear what our friends were saying and talking about, so if you are traveling with friends, be aware that the house doesn’t have much sound insulation. This only added to the charm for us. Decor was vey true to the style of the house and the beds and large comfy couch were nice perks. Outside is a nice fire pit for enjoying being outside at night. Quiet and calm. There are friendly rescue dogs on the property that come to visit and hang out. Our friend had brought her dog along and he had a blast exploring the property and interacting with the owner’s dogs. There was a slight mixup about when we were to arrive, but that was addressed right away and fixed. The owner was very friendly and helpful, we enjoyed visiting with her and she even brought us a delicious home made dessert one night that was perfect. As far as the area goes, there isn’t much to do unless you are willing to take a little drive, but that didn’t bother us as we were just there to escape and relax. There is a nice hiking trail on the property.

Soooo relaxing

We had a great time staying at the Dogtrot cabin! The cabin was comfortable and the setting was soo relaxing. Suzy was a wonderful host and her love of the place shines through. We hope to return again.
