Swahili-Inspired Holiday House w/Rooftop & Garden Views
This Swahili styled house is accessed through a private courtyard in bustling Bagamoyo old town. There's a well equipped kitchen and downstairs toilet on the ground floor and a double bedroom on the first floor with a tiny bathroom. The open roof-top lounge on the second floor is a wonderful place to relax and and it offers a spectacular view of the sun-set most evenings. The cottage is conveniently situated, only a 5 minutes walk away from the beach, popular cafes and art shops.
The space This house merges outdoor living with the indoors. Typical of many Swahili designs, it is difficult to imagine what lies behind the understated door leading from the car park to the cottage courtyard. The courtyard merges into the kitchen which is equipped with a kettle, toaster, fridge/freezer, microwave, oven and washing machine. This makes cooking easy.
Upstairs the bedroom looks out onto the courtyard below. It has huge windows which can be opened up to enjoy the view. There's a desk and two wardrobes and the queen size bed has a fan inside the mosquito netting. Just off the corridor there's a shower room and toilet, with a sink next to it.
At the top of the house is a restful and tasteful roof-top lounge which is ideal for relaxing and watching the world go by. The view of the sun-set from up here is spectacular.
Dhow Cottage is the first of 4 planned cottages to be built in this compound. The second cottage has been partially constructed but builders will not be working when you are staying with us.
Bagomoyo old town is brimming full or artists, fishermen, cafes and children! There are 3-4 mosques in the vicinity and children come to play football at 4.30pm every evening infront of the cottage. The village library is opposite, and just round the corner is Poa Poa, arguably Bagamoyo's most popular cafe. The fish market is a 5 minutes walk away, as is the beach. As it is in a very central location, it can be quite noisy - so if you are seeking peace and quiet, this is probably not the best place for you!
There's an askari at night and you can park your car in a gated compound. As the cottage is new, we have not yet got wifi - though we have applied to have it installed .... so in the meantime, please come with your bundles.
Guest access You have access to the complete house and courtyard and private rooftop terrace.
