  • The California Condor was a common sight along the Columbia River in Lewis and Clark's day. By the early 1980's, there were only twenty-two left on the face of the planet, all in California. Today, thanks to a massive effort to re-populate the species via in-captivity pairing, there are some two-hundred members. But their recovery is far from assured. The Oregon Zoo has undertaken its own recovery effort whose ultimate goal is the re-introduction of the species into the protected wilderness area around the Columbia River Gorge. In short, to bring them home. For now, they live out their days in a vast, outdoor aviary designed specifically to mimic their habitat in the wild. If you have never seen one up close before, I urge you to come take a look. They are larger than any flying bird you will ever see, unless you go to Peru. And though black and white practically from head to toe, their plumage shines and reflects the light like dark, polished metal. If that doesn't suit your fancy, I will tell you that, as with all big birds, if you wait around long enough, they will do something so awe-inspiring that it will take your breath away, and something so goofy that you will laugh out loud. The house is surrounded by trees and you feel like you are at a retreat.

The property is in a great location. Sitting on the deck is lovely. The house itself is dark and needs a lot of maintenance. Also, the equipment for the game room is missing, and should be removed from the posting unless it's replaced.

The house was dirty, the beds were impossible to sleep in, we never slept in the master, my husband has a bad back, mattress would sink in the middle. Patio doors upstairs would not lock. Game table downstairs broke. Grounds so overgrown with poison ivy we could not go outside. We only stayed two days, we stayed the last 4 days with family. I am still waiting for a call back for a refund on those 4 days we did not stay. I talked with customer service, very rude, no help

Pros- Property was secluded but in a very convenient location near shopping and restaurants. It allowed for privacy but still close to everything. Property was well stocked with everything we needed. A great space for large family gatherings.Cons- Really dirty throughout with tons of dust and cobwebs, mouse droppings in laundry area, tons of clutter. House could definitely use some TLC. Most of the screens were broken and a majority of windows and doors were not operational. House was extremely warm as there is no AC and few fans to cool it off. Not being able to open most windows and sliders made it tough to get it cool. There is really only 1 1/2 baths and only one shower. Bathroom slider door did not close or lock. Bathrooms could use some good scrubbing. Lots of broken things throughout the house. Would not be a safe space for families with young children. Game table was broken and did not have accessories for play. It should be taken off the listing as it was not usable.Overall house did not seem as advertised and we probably would not rent again.
