Papa Bear lodge was clean, spacious, well supplied, and cozy. The cabin has an amazing great room area . There are 3 balconies to relax on outside. The fire pit was perfectly placed, however we did not end up using it. We all enjoyed the foosball table, giant checker table, and video game unit. The cabin is very large inside. We only used the 2 upstairs bedrooms, however there are 2 more downstairs. There are plenty of exterior lights to illuminate the night time. The beds are comfortable, and the home seems brand new! The cleaning staff did a great job getting the home ready for our stay. The towels were nice and we were given some shampoo, conditioner, dishsoap, makeup wipes, paper towels and toilet paper. It was very well stocked with cooking pots, pans, cups, silverware, etc. The refrigerator has a purified water dispener which was a relief.
The Blue Ridge management staff are easy to get ahold of, and respond promptly. We couldn’t figure out the bear- proof garbage can& they explained it to us.
I will say that this cabin is truly at the top of the mountain. I believe 3.8 miles from Eagle’s nest front gate. It is Lot 6 on the map, near the ridgeline. I was not prepared for the steep drive up to Papa Bear lodge. When we arrived it was almost sunset and there was dense fog. I highly recommend arriving well before sunset because there was fog nightly around that time. It took me a few days to get used to driving there. The first night we were there a bear came to the bottom of the stairs and I managed to scare him/her away by unlocking& re-locking my car ( which beeps& makes the lights blink). I forgot my bear spray at home, which made me uneasy. We also saw a wild turkey and an elk in the parking area at the top of the property. Most other home sites neighboring Papa Bear Lodge are currently under construction. Hopefully more neighbors will move in soon.
We love the great camp area, and spent a lot of time there. The toy barn occupied the kids for hours. There is ice cream and other snacks& essential supplies available for sale there also. The mini golf and park were fun too. We only went to the back of the mountain once, it’s very open there. I wish I had remembered about the sat& sun brunch snacks served at the north pavilion 11-3. There is also a mini soccer field and basketball court there too.
Overall we very much enjoyed our relaxing mountain retreat at Papa Bear Lodge. I highly recommend this cabin!!!!!
