Gwenn Ha Du, the Breton flag, was created in 1925 by Breton activist Morvan Marchal. Today, the Gwenn Ha Du is the undisputed symbol of Brittany. It features 9 alternating black and white stripes, accompanied by a checkerboard pattern of ermine.
It symbolizes nine countries, nine bishoprics. Black for the Gallo countries: Rennais, Nantais, Dolois, Malouin, Penthièvre and white for the Breton countries: Léon, Trégor, Cornouaille, Vannetais. It's a flag synonymous with diversity and unity.
