Two night stay for UIUC Mom’s Weekend. Though the Red Roof Inn is a bit dated and is a no frills hotel, I have to admit that the bed was very comfortable and my stay was nice and quiet. It served its purpose for a place for me to sleep after spending all day with my son on campus celebrating Mom’s weekend. It was an easy drive (about 10 mins) to campus. At check in, the staff was so friendly and helpful. The housekeeping staff was also friendly. It was a pleasant stay.

I didn’t feel completely safe as a solo traveler. I arrived after midnight after dealing with a medical emergency with a family member. I just needed a place to sleep. It was clean but looked worn. My room was clean but smelled like smoke despite being a no-smoking room. The person at the front desk when I checked in wasn’t rude, but she did ask me multiple times if I was the only person in the room, and then reiterated that no one else was allowed in there but me. I felt like I was being interrogated. I’ve never experienced that before and it made me wonder why she was making such a big deal out of it, and that added to my concern about safety. I’d stayed at this hotel years ago, but I won’t return again.

The property is a remodeled upgraded building. There was no eating area or provisions, rooms do not have coffee, but are equiped with hot water, a small refrigerator and microwave.The room is very large and appeared clean but smelled like a lockerroom filled with dirty socks and smelly feet. It was very quiet. Would recommend a small air purifier. The price good
