「Breakfast is advertised as being available from 7. As we had a plane to catch we were keen to get it early. But hot food was not out until 7.15, fruit juice not until 7.20 and there was initially no bread to toast (just crumpets and muffins) and no butter. If breakfast is advertised from 7, everything should be available from 7, not 20 minutes later. very poor effort.」

「We loved our brief stay on beautiful Alfriston. A lovely hotel with excellent staff and a fine breakfast.」

「The rooms were upstairs from a skeavy pub. The pub was situated directly on a busy road. The room was hot and stuffy (no fan provided) so the window had to stay open. The traffic seemed to be roaring through my room. I had to beg for help carrying my bags up the stairs. English breakfast was offered but only with fried eggs (I can't digest fried food.). Coffee (no tea) was offered. I can't drink coffee. One of the worst places I stayed in the UK (& not cheap.)」

「There was a golden wedding lunch party on the Saturday I stayed and one couple brought their dog which constantly yapped all afternoon when they left it outside in the garden. It did not make for a very relaxing afternoon reading on the terrace.」

「The hotel is a home from home with a luxury spa, Lovely staff and excellent food, it’s definitely worth the money. Lovely friendly atmosphere, gorgeous grounds and fabulous staff, I wish I could have stayed longer.」

「The room was clean but patio door lock was broken. There were a couple of stains on the carpet. The water pressure in the shower was dreadful!」

「The grounds are stunning with so much potential but it feels very much a work in progress. We used paddle boards on the lake, which was fab but an additional charge on top of a very expensive room. The sauna wasn’t quite up to heat, we stoked the wood burning hot tub for a dip, tried the lake to cool off and the cold plunge was unfortunately empty. The room was nice and clean. I booked the junior suite but ended up getting a suite. It didn’t feel any more special than a deluxe room elsewhere...

「What a beautiful location! Lovely hotel in a perfect spot. The staff were all so freindly and helpful, especially the extremely polite dark haired gentleman at the bar when we arrived. He took the trouble to show me to the room and explained everything. The breakfast was also very good, great choice and lovely to sit with a view of the Abbey. Would love to stay here again and would highly recommend.」
