a little bit far from train station, small room

everything was ok except that the staff tried to charge me for the room again when ai arrived (I already paid to Expedia). I knew that she might not do it intentionally, since they were all young and smiling and smoking outside the building when I arrived (and then when back to the reception then), but It was still not ok. I nearly forgot that I already paid online because I had made lots of reservation, couldn't remember every single one. This hotel really, really needs to give their staff more proffesional training.

Die Students Residence, in der wir geschlafen haben, hatte eine sehr gute Lage (Schaafenstraße quasi nebenan, Innenstadt 10 Minuten zu Fuß). Was es für uns wirklich runtergezogen hat, waren die Sauberkeit und Ausstattung: total staubig, nicht nur alle Oberflächen im gesamten Apartment (und es war nicht besonders groß), sondern auch die Polster der beiden Stühle im Zimmer und des Kopfteils des Bettes. Ekelhaft. Man konnte einfach sehen, dass mehrere Wochen (mindestens) nicht geputzt wurde. Der Boden hat total geklebt, weshalb wir die Schuhe angelassen haben, der Toilettendeckel hatte auch schon bessere Tage gesehen, da er einfach nur noch auf der Schüssel lag, ohne befestigt zu sein (haben es versucht, aber nichts zu machen). Es gab nur 2 große Handtücher und als uns die Papiere für die Hände ausgegangen sind, mussten wir ein wenig improvisieren. Mein persönliches Manko ist auch die zu weiche Matratze, aber da ist jeder verschieden. Ansonsten von der Lage her eigentlich super, der Service war auch gut und freundlich (uns haben die Kopfkissenbezüge gefehlt und wurden schnell bezogen) und der Preis wäre auch in Ordnung gewesen, wenn Sauberkeit, Ausstattung und deren Zustand besser gewesen wären. So war es für ein Wochenende auszuhalten, aber ich werde beim nächsten mal ein anderes Hotel nehmen.

Die Flure sind extrem verdreckt! Sehr unangenehmer Geruch auf dem Zimmer. Hat nichts mit den Fotos gemeinsam. Badezimmer hat gestunken. Es war so unangenehm, dass wir unseren Besuch abgebrochen haben und wieder abgereist sind. Extrem schlechter Check-out - keinerlei Erklärungen. Für den Check-in mussten wir erst jemanden anrufen, um das Gebäude zu betreten, danach war der self-checkin einfach.

Es war leider sehr dreckig, wir mussten erstmal selber putzen um das Bad usw. benutzen zu können. Top Lage, nah an der Innenstadt, Kiosk um die Ecke, ruhig. Günstiger Preis, für die unterbringung angebracht. Das Personal war freundlich, check in und out verliefen reibungslos und schnell.

The pictures are really misleading. The property can barely be used as some place where you just sleep during the nights. The rooms are nowhere close to as nice as shown in the pictures. They are old, with all kinds of stains of the walls, the washroom is decent. Overall the area is extremely tiny. Its not worth the price IMO.

Disappointed... Very bad service

When we came to the hotel, the front door was locked, lights inside where off and on a printed paper on the front door was written that the hotel operation is currently discontinued. We were shocked because we didn't know this 2 days ago while booking. Ringing the doorbell didn't help. Just after 2 times calling a number of the security company someone answered, but give us a wrong Pincode to enter. After 25 minutes someone who lives in the building helped us to open the front door. After opening the front door, there were a lot of problems during check in (45 minutes) and a few hours later to enter the room, because the card to enter the room was not working. From the moment I called for help till the moment someone came to help and I finally could enter our room, approximately 90 minutes passed. The table in the room is sticky if you touch it, the room was a bit dusty like it is not cleaned properly. And in the night when we went to sleep, there were also some hairs in bed....ieuw... The time we lost, the stress and the total disappointment of the service of the hotel was too much. Sorry, but I will not advise this place to my friends.

Das Personal war sehr freundlich und bemüht. Das Zimmer war sauber. Späte Anreise war möglich, Schlüssel musste an einem anderen Hotel geholt werden - unübersichtlich wenn man sich in der Stadt nicht auskennt, insgesamt 30 min Fußmarsch. Hotel von außen kaum beleuchtet. Möbel sind abgewohnt und gehören auf den Sperrmüll. Betten sind alte Metallgestelle, wackeln und quietschen bei jeder Bewegung. Fernseher ging nicht, Lampe auf dem Tisch ohne Glühbirne, keine Lampen am Bett - insgesamt nicht sehr wohnlich. Zimmer entsprach nicht den Internetseiten. Es war nachts sehr laut.

Das Hotel war sehr zentral, leider wurden wir spontan umgebucht in dieses Hotel da das andere auf Grund von Corina geschlossen war. Nettes Personal, hilfsbereit. Sauberkeit war nicht topp. Servierten im Regal staubig. Tassen und Gläser für Tee und Kaffee staubig und nicht richtig sauber. Betten haben sich sehr viel bewegt, zwei Einzelbetten. Und Matratzen waren mir persönlich viel Zu hart, aber das ist Geschmackssache.

Very dirty. Cleaning stuff only change the sheets without removing the dust from the room. I got three bed bugs bites. Anyway the hostel is in a nice area of Cologne and it is comfortable.

Location was good but the beds are dangerous. One of the beds in room 202 would just collapse if you knocked into it. I ended up sleeping on the floor because the bed collapsed during the night. Not great. I know it was cheap but I expected a bit better. Thanks

Broken beds

When first entering the room there was a funny smell in the room and then when we came to put our bags on the beds we noticed that the bunk bed was extremely dangerous as the whole thing was unstable, when we notified reception they said they would check the bed and “if it was faulty” they would change our room however they told us that there was nothing wrong with the bed and it was perfectly fine even though the top bunk about 10cm in either direction and the bottom bunk was at an angle. Due to this we had to put one of the mattresses on the floor and sleep on that as the we didn’t feel safe with someone on the top bunk. The brace on the single bed was at a 45° angle and bowed when it was sat on.

I wouldn’t advise this as a place for solo travellers looking to meet people. It’s basically hotel rooms with as many beds crammed in as possible. It’s a little close quartered if you’re sharing with strangers! If you just want a bed for then I guess it’s alright. In my room there were no sockets near the bed, the main lighting didn’t reach the lower bunk and there’s no separate lighting near the beds. That being said, beds were comfortable, room and bathroom were clean and communal area was decent. Good value for money. I stayed during Karneval and some foul reprobate defecated in the urinal in the communal area which rather out a damper on things but that was hardly the fault of the establishment.
