  • One of the northernmost towns along the coast in North Carolina, Duck is an idyllic town on the shores of the Currituck Sound. This shot was taken from the town's boardwalk while looking West over the sounds. It is advisable to visit the location in Winter as that is off season - so you can spend more time taking in the beauty of the North Carolina coastline and also sunsets are usually much more picturesque around the time owing to the cooler temperatures and lower amount of atmospheric haze. Plenty of things around Duck to see. Further north, there is the Currituck Lighthouse where you can climb the steps to the top of the lighthouse. North of Corolla, there is an area where you can drive along the coast on the sand - 4X4s a must. Here you can spot some Spanish Mustangs, horses out in the wild. If you're lucky, you can spot them running along the beach in the surf. I'd recommend taking a tour through the Corolla Wild Horse Fund - the money from the tours is used to help the wild horses in every which way possible and the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Are you the type of person who travels with their own toilet paper, kitchen sponge and towels, dish soap and trash bags? If so, then THIS is the place for you! If not, then this house is a huge disappointment. After traveling several hours, we arrived at the house eager to get out stretch our legs and use the bathroom. Imagine our surprise when only 1 out of 5 bathrooms had any toilet paper! We noticed that the carpet was wet just outside a bathroom on the second floor. We looked around and found no leaks anywhere, but decided to keep an eye on that area. Later we realized that it was the dishwasher/kitchen pipes (?) leaking. We called and left a message with the rental company and they did call us back the next day, promising they'd send maintenance out to fix it. No one ever came. It was quite obvious by the moldy/musty smell and the water marks under the sink that this had happened many times. We could not use the dishwasher the entire week we were there and had to hand wash dishes for 9 people. It wouldn't have been so bad if the kitchen had any towels, sponge or even dishwashing soap.We found a half drunk bottle of soda on one of the bunk beds and a half a pack of cigarettes under another bed.There are obvious problems with the roof as we found water marks and peeling paint in the upper master bedroom ceiling and stained carpet where water had laid. The only thing this house has going for it is the proximity to the beach and a quiet cul-de-sac. Do not stay here.
