I stayed in the dorm (a large one of 20 or so beds) as single traveller - it's not for everybody, but was just right for me (being 68 years young); it was not crowded at this time. Had lots of space, and friendly conversations with other single travelers. Cleanliness was not perfect but quite acceptable. Appreciated shared kitchen for self-made meals (including microwave and fridge). Distance to downtown shopping and restaurants is very convenient, to beaches acceptable. Felt safe, even at night.
The host is very accommodating, flexible and knowledgeable. Gives rides as needed for a small fee.
Only downside: the dorm has no windows - it has permanent openings for ventilation. Three nights a week noise from a bar or disco is somewhat bothersome. Mosquitoes can come in at night, but a mosquito net and repellent help, and in the dry season it is not so bad. A mosquito net is not for everybody, but was o.k. for me.
This hotel is in a good location with fine staff for the right guest at a reasonable cost. My main purpose was to stay at a budget hotel for a scuba trip.
