Clean, comfortable house in a great location. Pros: really nice deck and great hot tub in a very private backyard, wonderful TV, and a comfy basement to play pool in. Very clean and no extra clutter, with a huge empty pantry for your groceries and empty dressers for your stuff. Close to awesome stuff: Dolly Sods, waterfalls, outdoor activities. Cons: The non-master-room beds need new mattresses--the old ones are not comfortable anymore.

Family hikong trip

Heat didn't work, property was not shoveled, family fell down icy stairs. There was blizzard warning and national weather service advised no travel. Host said that was our problem and lost a day.

Great place to stay

The Bear's Ben was a great place to stay. We stayed for a whole week and it was great. The only complain that a few of my family members had were that the pillows were flat. So you might want to being your own pillows. I didn't have any issue. There were more than enough beds for the 3 couples that stayed and the dogs were happy with the back yard area. They also had extra blanket and pillows in the closets. They also provided plenty of towels. The neighbors are far enought away that it gives you privacy. The parking area could easily hold 4 vehicles, as we had 3 and there was plenty of room for another. The back porches is were we spent most of our time relaxing and watching the wildlife (deer and geese). There was a pound behind the house that the geese and deer liked to visit in the evening. The view was nice, as there were some really pretty sunsets.

Bear’s Den

We (parents, children, grandchildren) we’re on our annual family vacation. The Bear’s Den was the perfect place for us. The house had lots to entertain us…..pool/ping pong table, air hockey, hot tub as well as LOTS of space for board games. The location was just what we were looking for…..a little out of the way but not too far from grocery store and restaurants. We visited Blackwater Falls State Park (only 10 miles away) nearly every day and found new breathtaking views and trails each day. We also took the grandkids for a horseback ride and went on a scenic train ride. All in all a great place for a family vacation!

Perfect For Our Family of Nine

Very nice home with bedrooms on all 3 floors. We made use of the gas grill and the kids enjoyed the hot tub. There is new construction going on behind the homes on Winterset and work started early (before 8 AM on at least one morning) and this was mildly annoying, so prospective renters may want to check with the leasing agency before committing. A couple of light bulbs need replacing and the house could benefit from a more robust coffee maker (coffee temperature wasn’t hot enough) but these are minor issues found in most rentals. Kitchen was well-equipped and the beds were comfortable. Good location just 2 miles off the main road. We were there for one week in August 2022 and temperatures ranged from the upper 50’s to the mid-70’s.

Great spot in the beautiful Canaan Valley

I rented Bear’s Den for a friends reunion getaway weekend over July 4th weekend and it was fantastic. The house is located right at the bottom of Timberline ski mountain, down the road from Dolly Sod’s Wilderness Area, and beside the Canaan Valley Wildlife refuge so there’s plenty of great hiking and outdoors nearby. The house itself was very spacious - even with 9 people we had plenty of bedrooms, common space, and kitchen space for everyone. The hot tub and games were a hit too!

Perfect for our stay

This house was perfect for hosting family members who were unable to obtain a room at the Canaan Valley Lodge. Clean and equipped with things to do....air hockey, pool table, hot tub and board games....all of which our family enjoyed! For those who want to drive over to the Canaan Valley restaurant, it is about 12 minutes away. Be aware that GPS might not give perfect directions to the house. It is the first house on the left after you turn into Winterset Dr. Google Maps was directing us all the way up to the end of the road!

Best time ever!!!

This was our first vacation to the mountains in West Virginia. We had a great time. The property looked great and it had everything we needed for our stay. We enjoyed the play room a lot but on the side note the pool table is not in the best shape. But for us it was enough and we played almost every evening. Having TV on the main floor and then downstairs was very convenient since we went there with our friends. This way kids could watch different shows in the evening. Hot tub was a big hit as well. The location is perfect. Close to everything and with privacy. Furnishing was nice and beds were comfortable. We loved this property and will come back for sure.

Beautiful!

We absolutely loved our stay at Bear's Den! The property was easy to get to and gorgeous. Amenities offered (such as a few small appliances, dishwasher, washer/dryer, etc.) made our visit easy. Additionally, we had a large group of people and were happily accommodated throughout the house for beds/rooms. We traveled the 20 or so minutes back into Davis, WV and were happy to see so many cool businesses, and ate at Wicked Wilderness. Hikes at Blackwater falls were also stunning and easy to get to. Thank you for accommodating our large crowd and for a lovely stay!

Not Just a Ski Lodge.... Also a Great Summer Retreat!

Almost Heaven.... W Va... and this property provided a beautiful base for 3 generations of our family to enjoy it. The location is wonderful in natural beauty and close to many fun family activities (seeing deer including a fawn in the backyard, walks in the immediate area, exploring two areas of waterfalls within short drives along with a rainforest like woods, visiting the quaint little towns of Davis and Thomas, and boating/tubing on huge and beautiful Deep Creek Lake) The house itself is spectacular: cathedral ceiling on the main level, lots of space, is beautifully appointed and CLEAN, and includes a hot tub in the back to relax in after a day of exploring. It was exactly as described in the listing, down to lots of towels, etc. We went here in the Summer, an off-peak time for the area, and enjoyed a much reduced rental rate and we all were very reluctant to leave when it was time. We especially enjoyed the Double S Riding Stables that were within walking distance. Their fees were reasonable ($ 30) and the owners and helpers could not have been more friendly, helpful, and very intent on riders having a wonderful time.... they even hand-led horses for our two youngest (7 & 8) who we felt were not strong enough to handle a horse on their own. This experience was the icing on the cake of our stay.
