Breathtaking!!!

We had such a wonderful stay at teh Greenwood Beach Cottage. The pictures will not deceive you. The location is absolutely perfect for anyone looking for pristine coastline views, and access.

Gorgeous place

The location and view were outstanding! If you want a quiet, relaxing, simple place where you can sit in bed and stare at a gorgeous view all day long, and walk to a lovely beach daily, this is the perfect spot for you! It was a bit of a drive to Mendo, hiking, etc., but we didn't mind. Do be aware that the place is not especially private from your cohabitors. The one bathroom is accessible through the back bedroom, and the front bedroom (with the view) has a curtain rather than a door.

Lovely time

This house feels bigger in person than in the listing. We saw the other reviews about the steep driveway but it didn't worry us much but we had a jeep. Kitchen well appointed. Views outstanding. Clean for a remote area like that. I expected to see a bug at any moment but never did. A family of deer was out roaming right next to the house one evening. You can walk to the market and vendors in the tiny town and to the park to take the trail to the beach. We'd absolutely stay again.

The views are spectacular

The views at this rental are spectacular. The house is clean and comfortable. The deck in the back for enjoy the view was so great we sat out to watch sunset even though it was raining. There are many hummingbirds that fly around all over the garden and are also fun to watch. We had an unfortunate safety issue. We travel with a small travel trailer 6x10 feet and asked if the property was suitable for us to park it. We were told it was suitable . It was not due to the steep driveway that is on a cliff and the size of the parking area. We spent a great deal of time with many texts and calls arranging with Vacasa to have assistance leaving the property safely with our trailer.

Fantastic view but terrible beds. Overpriced given the condition of the house.

The view is INCREDIBLE and can be enjoyed sitting up in the double bed or from chairs outside. BUT the beds were so soft that we both slept very badly and woke up with sore necks and backs. They were so uncomfortable that we chose to drive home late in the day rather than stay for our second night. The house was clean but needs maintenance - one screen in the sunroom/bedroom is completely torn at the bottom, many windows have failed and are cloudy, the stairs down to the deck are uneven and sloping etc. A pest control person showed up and spray liquid and spread pellets or something around the house. Fortunately, we asked him if it was safe for our dog and he advised us to keep the dog in for the next half hour. If we had returned to the house ten minutes later, we would have been unaware of the newly applied poison. Instructions for how to get down to the beach below would have been nice. It is easy to walk to but not immediately obvious.

Amazing view and location! Cozy house, a wonderful place overall. The only negative was the loose gravel driveway at such a steep incline. Our car got stuck trying to pull out one evening. It should definitely be paved.

Killer view

Although the driveway was steep, overall property was comfortable. Needs lots of tlc outside and clearing for dogs. Did not know how to check out until we could get reception. We actually left at 9:30 am!

Beautifully located cottage.

It was a great experience from booking to check out. The views from the cottage are picturesque. We enjoyed the peace and quiet and loved being this close to the ocean. Night sky when clear was incredible. Our interactions with the locals were some we will always cherish.

Don’t stay here if you don’t have four wheel drive we could not get our car out of the gravel drive way for one hour and Vacasa was no help. The house is adequate the view is breathtaking. The little town is great. But I would never stay in a Vacasa managed property again.

If you don’t have four wheel drive don’t stay here

Location was great. House was outdated but had the basics. We had been told that the drive was steep and gravel so we were careful pulling in and were able to park in the driveway just fine. The next day it took us an hour to get our car(Prius) out of the steep gravel driveway. That put a huge damper on our trip. So my biggest advice is don’t stay here if you don’t have four wheel drive. We called the Vacasa helpline totally unhelpful, smug and a little hostile. The local guy was a bit better and seemed to at least understand us but communication was just through voicemail since the region has spotty cell service he suggested parking on the road or the nearby state beach public parking. Anyway we ended up taking a risk and parking at the nearby state beach parking for the second night and we just ended up lucky since there was a sign that said no overnight parking. Listen elk is beautiful, the house is adequate, the view from the house is unparalleled. But for me this being the first Vacasa managed property I have ever stayed at, I would never stay here again especially because no remediation for huge inconvenience was offered. The Vacasa phone/text agents are a joke and are completely unequipped, for example if anytime passed and I texted again then it would be a new person who clearly didn’t read the history and I would have to explain to them all over again what happened. Anyway this house was a pretty penny, if you have four wheel drive and don’t really need help from Vacasa helpline then you should be okay. But I forever will have a bad taste in mouth about any Vacasa managed property. Just tell people they need four wheel drive to stay there!!! I wasn’t even gonna write a review but since I received incessant emails about reviewing here ya go.

Spring break mini vacation

The views from the house were incredible! Loved the walk to the beach with my son and dogs. The market was lovely, and The Elk Restaurant and the Greenwood were wonderful. Would've love to stay longer.

Heaven by the beach

We have stayed here several time with our dog. We got engaged on the beach below so it holds a special place in our heart! The views are breathtaking and the sound of the waves relaxing throughout our stay! Can not wait to come back!

Greenwood Cottage

The view is amazing!! The area is beautiful and just off the beaten path enough to truly unwind. The Elk store across the way was convenient and Mendocino/Fort Bragg not too far away. Overall a really great vacation getaway!

Amazing location!

Elk is a great little town with several food options, and we especially loved the Greenwood and the Elk. Trail access to the beach is up the road at the park. Comfy beds and great fireplace. Would definitely recommend and hope to return!

Beautiful View & Location, needs improvements

The location, beach access and view from home was amazing! The home was decently stocked, but some needs some small improvements. The faucet in the shower needs replaced & the sink is rickety in the bathroom. There were ant bait traps all over the home, and we saw a few ants. The main concern is the entrance to the home. It’s not really the grade of the driveway, but the blind entrance onto HWY 1. The shrubs should be removed and a mirror added for better vision. We had to use my 16 year old son as a look out to pull out of the driveway. Love the view and location, a few things could dramatically improve the impression of this home.
