Place is pretty cool being a historic hotel but does show signs of wear- it is over 100 after all. Smells a bit musty. No hot water at all evening or morning, staff didn’t seem to care and certainly not surprised. No restaurant or bar which they said was all of a sudden…not too sure about that. Breakfast included was cold cereal and microwavable egg sandwich -better than nothing. Fruit was fresh. Staff friendly and bed comfy. Would stay again if in a bind.

Front desk staff was very helpful and friendly. The room was clean. Looks like it was last updated in the 80s or 90s. The shiny swirly wallpaper and Victorian window treatments did not match in tone with the heavy wooden furniture and the Italianate bathroom tile. There was a creepy black vinyl armless chair up against the adjoining room door, which had its vinyl breaking down and sticking to the door. The decorative photos reflected the hotel’s place in Eureka history as a prominent logging town. The hotel was built in the 20s, so why are they trying to do Renaissance and Victorian all in the same room? This room definitely, style wise, had an identity crisis in it was irritating. Needs updating with a good decorator who can update while respecting the era in which the landmark hotel was built. The breakfast was adequate, standard hotel fare.

1. The teeny tiny wall heater was completely unable to heat the room, much less reach the bathroom. 2. The bathroom is extra small. There is no place to set anything. 3. The shower temp fluctuated wildly. The last half of my shower was lukewarm.

This hotel has an incredible vintage, old-world charm that perfectly matches the town. It was honestly one of my favorite places I’ve ever stayed. The decor is classy and classic, with beautiful details everywhere — including paintings of all the famous people who have stayed here over the years. It’s epically cool and makes you feel like you’re part of history. The lobby is stunning, with gorgeous stained-glass windows, a huge sitting area, a fireplace, and massive leather chairs. You truly feel like a president staying here. The front desk staff were all so kind, welcoming, and helpful, which made the experience even better. My room was very clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully maintained, with a high-quality bed that made it easy to relax after a long day. I’ve been driving up the coast from LA, and this was hands down my favorite stay in California. I would absolutely come back — this place is something special. And, close to everything fun in Old Eureka.

Room was clean but cold. Even with the heater on it never got warm. Water never got hot and the hottest it did get lasted only a few minutes. The people next to us tuned their tv on at 330 each morning and woke us up. If you like staying at places just for the historical appeal it’s worth staying at. It you want a warm place with hot water i wouldn’t recommend it.

The great room off the main entrance gives a feeling of grandeur from a bygone era, with portraits of VIPs who stayed there decades ago. The room where we stayed was adequate, and the bed was comfortable. However, the desk would have benefited from a real desk chair instead of a backless hardwood bench. A light bulb was out over the bathroom sink. The bathroom was tiny, with no counter space. Overall, the room was dimly lit, with inadequate lighting to read comfortably. It would’ve been nice to have more outlets for plugging in devices. The only outlet near one side of the bed was the end of an extension cord coming out from under the bed (where only a two-pronged plug would work.) There was no outlet at hand on the other side of the bed. The continental breakfast was adequate, with good coffee, and some fresh fruit, yogurt, hard boiled, eggs, cold cereal, donuts, muffins, bread and English muffins for toast, and a couple of kinds of breakfast sandwiches to be warmed in the microwave, plus orange juice, and milk.

The website description was false and misleading. There is no onsite restaurant, and the lounge is only open for a few hours 3 days a week. The reception staff were cold and rude. This hotel prides itself on the many famous people who once stayed there, long ago. However, none of those people whose portraits hang on the walls would set foot in that place now. This is without doubt the worst place I have ever lodged. Who ever owns this hotel obviously has no interest in reviving it, and shame on Wyndham Hotels for their participation in this sham. Whatever you do stay somewhere else if visiting Eureka.

We spent very little time in our room, but the time we did spend in the room was unpleasant. Just after falling asleep, The compressor on refrigerator kicked on and vibrated the entire cabinet and TV. After unplugging we spent the next several hours listening to the neighbors upstairs. Bed was very uncomfortable. There was no hot water! Shower was cold, which we needed to wake us up after a bad sleep. The breakfast was some toast and jam. Not a great experience.

The bathroom was infested with ants. I have to keep them drowning them in the sink so they wouldnt get to the bedroom. The lighting is horrible very poor and dim without even a lamp on the desk. The toilet seat cover was loose and kept on moving when one sat on it. They certainly need a lot of upkeep and maintenance to do to the rooms. One is fooled by the gorgeous historic lobby and grand entrance hall to the hotel.
