- A plane trip can be a comfortable experience if you've got all the right gear. First things first, you'll need toiletry items, such as a toothbrush and hairbrush, a clean pair of socks and a few magazines. Next, make room in your carry-on bag for your phone, tablet and chargers, any vital medications and maybe a comfy neck pillow too. Lastly, and most importantly, be sure to take your passport, travel documents and your bank cards.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- Squeeze all your full-sized bottles of hair gel and hairspray in your checked baggage. Any liquids in your carry-on suitcase larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) won't be allowed on. Sharp objects, like your Swiss Army knife, and dangerous products which are flammable or explosive, such as flares, bleaching agents and matches, are also restricted.
What to wear on a flight:
- Choose comfort over style. Prepare for temperature changes by dressing in layers, and wear flat, slightly roomy shoes like slip-ons.
- Deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition caused by prolonged inactivity, can be a risk on long-haul flights. Make a point of walking around the cabin or do some gentle exercises in your seat to promote better circulation.
