First, put in your passport, official ID, wallet and medications. Next, you'll want some entertainment to help pass the time. A juicy book and a tablet crammed with your favourite movies are good options. If you hope to take a quick snooze, a neck pillow and some earplugs will also come in handy. Finally, make room for a few toiletry items to ensure you arrive at your destination looking fresh and raring to go.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
Leave all your full-sized bottles of shampoo and hairspray in your checked luggage. Any liquids in your carry-on bag larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) will be confiscated by authorities. Sharp objects, like a Swiss Army knife, and dangerous products which are flammable or explosive, such as aerosols and strong acids, are also banned.
What to wear on a flight:
Comfort should be your main concern when deciding what to wear on your flight. Loose, breathable clothing is a sensible option, as are flat, slightly roomy shoes.
The result of lengthy periods of inactivity, deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a blood clot condition that can affect passengers on long-distance flights. Lower your risks by staying hydrated, keeping your legs and feet moving and wearing compression socks to help improve your circulation.
Airport security personnel first need to verify that you have a valid ID and matching boarding pass before you can proceed any further. Keep them close by.
After that, both you and your hand luggage will be X-rayed. To speed things up, take off anything that is likely to trigger the alarm. Items such as your belt, jacket and headphones will be required to go through the machine.
Your electronic devices like laptops and phones will also have to go on a tray for inspection. Don't worry though, you'll be back online soon enough.
Can't travel without your favourite cologne? Not a problem. As long as the volume is no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) and it's stored in a zip-close bag, you can keep it with you in your carry-on.
Slip-on shoes are a good footwear choice as you're less likely to be required to remove them when going through security. Hiking boots and other heavy shoes are usually subjected to additional screening.
Take all prohibited items out of your carry-on bag. If you have any sharp or pointed objects, pack them in your checked luggage. They won't be allowed on board.
