Top Farmstay in Garrotxa in 2026

To capture one of the best views of the medieval city of Besalú, backed by the snow-capped Pyrenees, you'll need to walk slightly out of town.

From the tourist office, head across the car park in a southerly direction and take the road straight on that runs parallel to the river Fluvia. When you reach a t-junction, the right hand fork is signposted “camping,” but you’ll need to turn left. The tarmac road heads uphill. Keep following it until you reach a right hand turn that leads off into a field and towards a farmhouse. Around here is the brow of the hill and offers a stunning view down on to Besalú.

I’d recommend heading up here around 9 or 10am, in order to capture the city bathed in the early morning sunlight.

"Mas Carol is an amazing place! Prepare to be in the middle of nowhere, the road is fine if you drive carefully but the location gives you a lot of rest and breathtaking views. The owners are very nice and available for questions. The pool is clean and large. The house can get a little bit of an upgrade, especially the kitchen but that is also the style and what makes it charming. We had a great time! "

"We had a great stay here. The house and pool are excellent and the location is beautiful and very peaceful. George was very friendly and welcoming and responded quickly to little requests we made. We felt that the description of the location could be a little more precise.The access road is quite rough and tricky to negotiate in places after heavy rain. "What a brilliant place for our multi-generational group of friends and family. The setting is beautiful - very peaceful, with fabulous views of the surrounding woods and mountains. The property worked really well for us, with something for everyone - particular favourites included the pool, board games, books, TV, table-tennis, and the space to relax on your own if you wanted peace and quiet. Another bonus for us was being able to walk/hike/run direct from the property. A great week, thank you!"

"We were traveling with our dog, and the staff were friendly and accommodating of him. The hotel had on-site parking which was easy to use and a small gym. The only drawback was the dinner which was not at all in keeping with the quality of everything else. Breakfast was just fine. Overall, we'll gladly stay here again the next time we're in the area."
