Calm and majestic

Great place for a family reunion, lots of deck space with a beautiful view. Comfortable beds and large bathrooms. The well water is indeed a bit strong, but the filtered water was fine for drinking and cooking.

Beautiful location

We had a wonderful stay at this property. The views are stunning and we really enjoyed sitting on the balcony and absorbing the scenery. Amazing hiking close by, plus Glacier National Park in 1 hour driving distance. Meachel was a great host and responded very quickly when we asked questions or made requests for help. The house is well equipped and while not air conditioned has screened windows so you can have the windows open at night. Insect repellent is a must since the mosquitoes outside were ferocious.

Astonishing views and A+ host!

Highly recommend staying at Meachel’s place. It’s very clean, spacious, perfectly laid out and comfortable. The fireplace was a hit, as was a couple of games on Wii during A rainy night. The views of the forest and the mountains from the front balcony changed each day and night from cloudy to fog to sunny to bright starry night. Unbelievable! I want to come back so bad!

40th Anniversary

Very nice lodge. Comfortable, clean and well stocked. The robes were a nice touch. The only complaint is that there were no instructions on how to operate anything, like t.v., hot tub etc. Or what was required for check out. We had to wing it.

Friends Getaway

We enjoyed this property so much, it's exactly what we were looking for - away from city life. We were on motorcycles and the road to the house was a bit intimidating but we had no problems. The beds were so comfortable!!! We were shocked at the amount of mosquitoes but thankfully we found some repellent. 😁 The owner was extremely responsive to our messages, which we appreciated. I think we would all stay here again if we're in the area! Thanks for hosting us, we had a wonderful time!!!! I already miss the morning coffee views.

Our stay in the Rocky Mountains

We came to Canada this year to experience the beautiful National parks. We were not disappointed! With that being said we were shocked at the price of things (it is so expensive!) The cabin was rustic and a work in progress which we new ahead of time and were completely ok with. The place was beautiful, the view was AMAZING! The host was very responsive and a wonderful host! We are used to staying in cabins a couple of times per year and really was impressed however, the cabin wasn't as clean as we would have liked it, and the water has a very strong sulfur odor but the kitchen has a filter for drinking water and we used the washer which did not leave an odor in our clothes. We would def stay here again! Thank you for hosting us :)

Mountain View

Our family of 4 included our college age kids. We absolutely loved the porch with amazing views of the mountains. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed. The home served as a perfect home base as we explored Banff & the national parks. Highly recommend this home for your next getaway..

Great Place with an Excellent View

Sitting high on the side a west-facing mountain, this brand new construction is very nicely done. Secluded but still close enough to Golden, the peaceful "Black Bear Lodge" offers three bedrooms for privacy (two on the main level flanking a full bath; one upstairs with its own bathroom) and a great room when all want to be together. The interior decor throughout is very tasteful, the kitchen was well equipped, and the outdoor hot tub down below provided a good soak after a day of hiking in the many nearby Canadian national parks. We even had a couple of local deer keep a watchful eye on us as we came and went! All in all a really nice place... and the owner was friendly, professional, and unbelievably attentive and responsive to any question we had. She was super easy to work with. In retrospect I wish we would have spent a bit more time there.

Great View!

We use VRBO extensively for our travels and this property was somewhat disappointing. The views are great but with leftover coffee in the coffee maker, beer bottles outside the hot tub, and the fridge requiring cleaning on arrival, this wasn’t quite what we had hoped. Maybe this house isn’t rented much in the winter as it felt like it needed a good spring clean. We liked the spot in the woods although there is still a lot of the home under construction. It would be nice to have soap for the showers—especially to counter the strong sulphur smell from the well water. We had a great time in Golden and given the other reviews, perhaps it was simply an issue with time of year and/or the cleaning crew not being quite as attentive this time. Kitchen is well equipped and great deck to grill.

Overall we had a pretty great stay. Couple things of note; the house is about 15-20 minutes from Golden, down the highway and up a windy private dirt road with other premium cabins; during our stay the basement was entirely unfinished. We had a toddler so the whole area had to be blocked off. The well water was pretty sulphureous; but the owner was sure to communicate that it has been properly treated and there is an RO filter in the kitchen; although even that water has some stank on it. Beds were comfortable, but the property does not have AC and only one standing fan. It cools off in the evening but the house (especially the apex bedroom) is great at retaining heat.

Secluded getaway

Loved our stay here. Secluded, couldn't see the neighbors, wooded, and gorgeous view from the back porch. Was nice to relax in the hottub after hiking. The house was beautiful and comfortable. Our only complaint was it had hard water, which the manager warned us about. We just picked up bottled water. Would definitely stay here again. Property owner was very nice, helpful and courteous. Thank you for letting us stay at your beautiful home!

Very nice place for a few peaceful days

Not too far from Golden is this very nice house overlooking the Columbia valley. The place had everything we needed including a kitchen that was really equiped with everything you need (and more).

Beautiful location and property!

This was an amazing and remote property with the most stunning views! The cabin was clean and had everything we needed for our stay! The short drive to town provides beautiful scenery and is located near trailheads in either direction. Would recommend for sure!

Lovely place for a group getaway despite smoke and heat

This is as others have said a lovely new house, with everything you could need, especially suitable for a group of people. It is very well-equipped, particularly the kitchen. Beds were really comfortable, according to everyone who came. Hot tub worked well and is accessible for those who has slight mobility issues (although stairs are required to get to it). Views are or would have been extraordinary, but like most of BC this year, the sky and air were smoky with wildfires and high temperatures that made the windowed house very uncomfortable late in the day, particularly as one of the ceiling fans had apparently been vandalized by a previously heat-crazed visitor. Meach was very good about responding to our pathetic wails of heat prostration, and promptly reimbursed us for a room fan which I would suggest for the loft room as well. Our mid-30s youngsters there braved the heat anyway. For those of us more elderly by inclination and body, it would have been great to have a bit more regular-height seating inside, particularly as the outside deck table and chairs had not been well-cleaned of marauding rodents (thus my reduced rating for cleanliness; otherwise the place was very well-cleaned). We found the VRBO and owner's warnings about data overages confusing, and thus didn't watch TV. This was unfortunate, as there is a great TV provided. However, aside from very brief interruptions when we were checking email for work or browsing for hardware and grocery stores (and wildfire warnings), the wifi was much better than many I have experienced in Yoho, Golden, Kicking Horse and Blaeberry. If it had not been for both smoke and heat (Kicking Horse was a bust, for instance), this would have been a better getaway for us, but that is not the fault of the owner. A note on the water; potable (ok tasting water) is provided and water straight from taps is drinkable but tastes strong. For those who do not like their water to taste of anything, we would recommend getting the bottled water in town. The place is as advertised, better in person, and I would recommend it especially for a group, a family with grown kids, even a couple. It would be amazing in the winter. We would definitely go back.

This is our 2nd time staying at Meachel's gorgeous cabin. We love it. The home, the view, the deck and hot tub. Perfect spot to get away and relax. We will be back for a 3rd without a doubt.
