Absolutely fine
Nice location; away from the tourist area but Hora (Naxos Old Town) is easily walkable in half an hour. Good facilities, washing machine very much appreciated. Very helpful owner and local rep. Good shop on right at T-junction going into town (25 minutes). Petrol stations to the left at same location. I hired a scooter from Haris Rentals at the port. 20 euros a day plus 5 for picking up the bike the night before. Book a day in advance, leave passport. Lots of day excursions to other islands. No need to get the tourist 'day cruises' except for Delos. Santorini can be reached any day by the regular services (06.15 returning 15.30). You can have a day on Paros for 20 euros (Blue Star) but the return leg leaves after 10 at night. Excellent bus tours of Naxos from Naxos Bus Transfer at port. Itinerary 2 seemed the better choice. Highlights of Naxos were the unfinished marble kouroi at Apollonas and Flerio. Also climbing Mount Zas is exhilarating but strenuous especially from the 'cave route' just outside Filoti on the Apeiranthos road. Several kilometres further along is the tiny chapel of Agia Marina from where the route up is much easier, Don't mix up the two paths on the descent!
