Green, the colour of nature, brings calm and balance.

I am guessing this is a black swan (Thanks to Charles Arcudi - comments below - I now know it is a Mute Swan...be sure to check out his photos...very, very good). I am a complete fool when it comes to classifying living things...guess I should have paid more attention in biology class...my bad.

I know it is a bird and that it eats things in order to stay alive and this fella was munching down when I took the picture. The fish below him wanted to get at the food, but I gather that the swan wasn't about to let that happen.

Eat, float around and watch the sun go up and down. I mean, why is our life better than theirs? Can someone remind me...I must have missed that class as well.

If you are looking for old growth forests and bountiful nature, I suggest the wild coasts of western USA and Canada. However, if it is landscaped nature you are wanting, then I suggest coming to China.

This walkway which connects the street to the main gardens has a wonderful archway of swaying bamboo which turns the sunlight into wonderful shades of green. Hence the name 翠湖(cuihu) - Green Lake, although cui can mean jade green and this area definitely has that shade present...wonderful place to spend some time.

I have many Chinese students who, because I teach them one to one and have forged a relationship with them, tell me a great deal about their personal life. One of the things I have learned is that Middle School and University students spend time, during grade 7, 10 and their freshman year in university, training in the military.

Personally, I would hate it and don't ascribe to its practice. However, as an observer of political economy and nation states, I must admit that it is of incredible benefit. China has a vibrance to it and it owes this in part to the level of discipline that exists throughout its society.

On the contrary, in the US, there is a malaise that runs deep within its core. It is rotting from the inside out. Everywhere, you here the cry of how great America is, an affirmation without any discipline. It is a profound self-delusion and it is about to bite us all squarely on the ass.
