  • A few kilometres downstream from Lake Taupo the river changes to some rapids for a short distance. When the rapids finish there is a drop which creates a waterfall. It all ends with this scene which is stunning. Only a 30 second walk from the car park to the river this shot was taken about a 5 minute walk further downstream on the main track at sunrise.

  • I would not usually consider a garden a must-see experience, but I am really glad a local told us to visit Hamilton Gardens. The experience of wandering through a maze of hedges that open into perfectly cultivated gardens plucked complete from other countries and other eras was quite possibly the closest I will ever come to feeling like Alice in Wonderland come to life. You never know what magical sight waits around the next bend in the path.

Great stay would definitely recommend and will stay again for sure. Comfortable bed, clean and modern decor. One little idea would be to have small bottles of milk as the small plastic milks are so small and only hold a small amount of milk so you need at least 4 for a decent cup of tea. Otherwise I loved my stay. Thankyou very much!

What I liked: Roomy, Clean, Great Heat Pump, Shower good pressure, long mirror, large dining table, sky sport for hubby What my family didn’t like: tiny milk, very small cups, no tv in bedroom, Tv located above bed in living area, no couch, blinds were hard to operate Very nice overall stay. Clean and good shower are the more important things which is why I give 5 stars.

Our room only had 1/2 roll of toilet paper and we ran out with no spare. There was only instant coffee using tap water. No grocery or convenience stores nearby. No restaurants nearby. We went to bed without having dinner, eating our leftover snacks only. After saying all that, it was very clean and the thing that made it all okay was that the beds were the most comfortable beds on our entire trip. We slept so well. Thank you for the best beds.

The motel was the last place available. It was very pricey (more than $500 per night) for a one bedroom unit. The bed was very comfortable, and the unit was far enough away from a very busy road to be quiet. Reception was not manned at 4 pm, the pool was closed, there was no milk in the fridge, no information about where the advertised gym was, no popping into the room as I settled in, the toaster was cheap so did not fit a big slice of bread, coffee cups were tiny, coffee was instant, the service was bed and towels, dishes were not done, the hob was difficult to turn on (no instructions). I would stay again if it was the last place available, but would likely stay in another motel in preference.

This place was great. To be fair I had low expectations but it was quiet, recently refurbished and the staff were excellent. Only minor criticism is that the advertised exercise are does not exist.

The rooms, amenities, and kitchen appliances were all very clean. I was a little nervous travelling with my 5 month old boy while his dad was away playing in a golf tournament within the city, but the staff—especially the gentleman at reception—were very friendly and showed genuine empathy when my little one became unsettled. The location was also great, with PAK’nSAVE and a nearby dairy within walking distance, which made it easy to grab groceries and make fresh meals for my baby who has just started solids. Thank you for a wonderful stay — we’ll definitely be back again!
