We arrived. It felt slightly unsafe upon arrival but I do not know the area well like other parts of Costa Rica. The check-in area wasn't clean. Myself and my two boys, 12 and 15, and I had a bit of a disturbing feeling, and I decided it would be ok for one night. We checked in, got our keys, went directly to our room, and when we opened the door it smelled like mold. I kept telling myself this is ok. We are only here one night and we can play on the beach in the morning. We then opened the bathroom door, and there were giant roaches. Not one or two but everywhere in the bathroom. I stepped on a few before they ran into the main room and then slammed the door. They were built with armor. They were 1.5 inches long and took a big stomp to kill. Ugh I do not like killing things. Anyway, I kindly spoke to management about the roaches.
I said I can not stay here due to the number of roaches. He first said This is the tropics. I said I understand we have been in Costa Rica for 9 days, but we have never experienced roaches at stays & not the numbers and size of these. He told the woman manager (she did not speak English). He interpreted for us to contact Expedia for a refund, and they will honor it. Expedia has attempted to negotiate with the hotel five time they will not honor the refund. I did not expect perfection from this place, but I do believe that cleanliness is a fundamental element that everyone deserves in a hotel stay, & if it is not there, a refund should be honored.
