Take a break and unwind at this peaceful oasis. Enjoy beautiful views of the Kona coast from your private lanai, with plenty of fruits and herbs in the garden for your enjoyment. Depending on the season enjoy fresh papaya, mango, citrus, pineapples, figs, ulu, and bananas as well as an abundance of fresh herbs! The private entrance to the ohana may be accessed directly from the carport or walk through the red gate to your garden paradise. Truly beautiful space located in the downstairs of a two story home. Your ohana space is all your own. A short drive from the airport and downtown Kona, it’s the perfect hub for island adventures!
Located on the island's west side at a cool 1500 foot elevation, this small studio ohana is best suited for a single person or couple. There is NO Air Conditioning in the unit, but at the high elevation it stays very comfortable throughout the year.
Kona Garden Studio Ohana is situated 10 minutes up the hill from the Kona airport, as well as some of the Big Island's best surfing, diving and beaches. It is conveniently located close to Kona shopping and dining as well. A great hub for your island excursions.
This lovely ohana space has a sunset-facing sliding glass door opening to a private lanai where you can sit and enjoy the birds in the garden and year-round tropical climate. Keep in mind that with any place you stay in Kona, if you are at LESS than 1000 ft, it can be hot and humid. We are at 1500 ft - just perfect, it's warm and tropical, but not too hot. Relax to the sound of coqui frogs in the evening.
The unit comes with a fully equipped kitchenette (no oven), there is a single hot plate burner, toaster oven and outdoor BBQ grill. Electric kettle, blender, pots, pans, cutting boards, kitchen knives, mixing bowls with lids, colander, steamer, citrus juicer, cheese grater, measuring cups, dishes and utensils all on hand for your convenience.
Boogie boards, beach chairs, beach umbrella and snorkel gear is available for your use, located on the lanai. Beach towels are available inside of the unit as well.
Hawai’i island is mountainous and by far the largest of the Hawaiian islands. It is not feasible to see the entire island in a day. We highly recommend renting a car, ride-share is available in Kona, but to leave the area it becomes very expensive and less reliable. Bikes are great at sea level, but aren't advised as a primary mode of transportation as we live at 1500 ft above sea level and it is a very steep hill climb without bike lanes or shoulders.
If you like hiking, remember to bring heavy-duty hiking boots, with thick, rigid soles. You will be glad you did. Also, bring a rain jacket. You will need it at some point when you explore the Tropical Rainforest. If you plan to visit the summit of Mauna Kea, bring a pair of long pants and a warm jacket (I even wear gloves and a hat up there). On the summit, it is quite cold, freezing temperatures are common especially in the winter and overnight, at 13,796 feet above sea level.
