This solar powered single family home is located on the coast in the foothills of hawaii island’s oldest volcano, Kohala mountain, with views of the coastline and ocean. This beautifully appointed home is conveniently located in the historic neighborhood of Kawaihae Village. Set along the Kawaihae road, Hale Lani is a five-minute drive from some of the highest-rated beaches in the world: Mauna Kea, Hapuna beach state park and Waialea bay. Equally close are restaurants known for prize-winning fine dining in an outdoor setting. A scenic drive from Kawaihae harbor up the coast takes you to the charming town of Hawi, with prime whale viewing along the way during the winter months. The interesting and beautiful town of Waimea is just 15 minutes drive up the mountain where guests enjoy the many shopping and sightseeing options.

This was a good find for our honey moon. We had a fully stocked and clean house. The view was exactly what we were looking for. We wanted coast and Mountain View both and we got it. It’s 39 miles to the top of Mouna Loa beautiful views with sunsets. The traffic noise was a bit disappointing the first day then we got used to it and it didn’t bother us anymore.

Hale Lani delivered on all the must haves for our vacation. The location was ideal for access to the beach, sunrises and sunsets from the patio, exceptionally comfortable living space and amenities. We’ve stayed in many vacation rentals and this one truly checks all the boxes, from little things like dishwasher soap and trash bags to the bigger box which is it”feels” like your best friends house. The decor is truly island based which adds to the aesthetic-so much better than the functional but vanilla condo complexes. Host was very responsive - no issues at all. Very clean and definitely a kitchen you can cook in. Will highly recommend to friends headed to the Big Island.

Comfort, Convenience and Relaxation

Attention to detail! The hosts thought of literally everything you could possibly want or need to make their place your home away from home. Notables: Central AC, comfy beds, fully stocked kitchen, thick towels, huge bathtub and walk-in shower, full size washer/dryer located in utility room that looks like a closet (next to sliding patio doors). Excellent food and drinks at Seafood Bar & Grill 1 mile away. Very prompt communication with hosts, who were super nice. Also, they won’t add extra junk fees to your stay like corporate condo rentals do!

Another lovely vacation

Second trip to Hawai’i, second time staying at Hale Lani. We love the location of and the view from this house. It’s well-equipped: beach umbrellas, beach chairs, fluffy beach towels, good kitchen, grill, outdoor seating, and a smart tv if you want to watch something other than the sunsets. Evenings of sunsets and BBQ's

We had an absolutely wonderful stay. Nicole and Nicholas went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable and well supplied in the house. All of the little details that make the difference were handled. We arrived very late in the evening to a fresh loaf of bread and butter, a bottle of wine, and coffee beans for the morning. What a joy for a late flight. The view on the lanai is to die for and the proximity to the beaches is wonderful. We have been doing VRBO rentals on the Big Island for the last 7 years and this was the best rental we have stayed at for both the property and the hosts. Thank you - we plan to return!

Magical Family Time

I love love love this home. I have stayed several times. Location is great. A few friends and family for a retreat and to enjoy the beautiful Hawaii island. This place is magical. The owners are so kind. The home is clean with a great view. Love it.

Very clean and great location!

Loved how clean and well stocked the rental was. The beach umbrellas and chairs they provided were super helpful. Beautiful oceans views (just don’t expect a lush tropical landscape, this is the dry side of the island). 5-15 minutes away from lots of awesome beaches. Hosts were great with communication and provided lovely touches like a bottle of wine, freshly baked bread and a bag of coffee. And only 15 minute drive to cute town of Waimea. Only downsides are a bit of traffic noise, master bathroom doesn’t have a door and a few ants (but the hosts were upfront about it and they leave as soon as fast as they appear)

Relaxing and convenient

We had a great visit with easy access to the Kohala beaches. The backyard has a great view of the ocean with plenty of seating where we could read our books, drink cold beverages and not have to compete with crowds. We would love to stay here again.

Amazing family getaway!

Our little family had the best stay here! The house was extremely well stocked, the space was perfect for our family of four and we made so many memories here, but what really put things over the top were our wonderful hosts. They were extremely thoughtful throughout our stay from the fresh baked bread at check in after our late flight, to dropping off a basket of toys for our boys on a day that looked like it might rain, to letting us hang on to the snorkel gear and boogie boards for the day after checkout to pass the time before our flight home at the beach in style. The house was an incredible home base for all of our adventures on the Big Island, and we hope to be able to stay here again if we get the chance to come back!

Wonderful home, wonderful hosts

We had a lovely time staying at Nicole and Nicholas’s home. It was spotless when we arrived, and the thought that went into the extras they provided (fresh baked Hawaiian bread, Hawaiian sodas in the fridge, coffee and more) combined with how helpful they were if we needed anything, made our stay extra special. Location is very convenient to several beaches. This is a perfect choice if you don’t care for the resort vibe and want your own outdoor space. The only thing is there is some noise from the road if you are hanging outside but otherwise, Nicole and Nicholas’s spot is a gem. Highly recommended.

Great Spot Away from Crowds

Property is well taken care of and Nicole and Nicholas took great care of us. The house had everything we could have needed for our stay to include beach items. House is located closer to many of the beaches, but farther away from the more urban Kona area. We really enjoyed the location and home. The small issue we had was quickly resolved and didn't impact our stay at all. Highly recommend for your tropical getaway.

We love th area, close to our favorite beaches, fish market, and everything else you need. The house is very comfortable and well equipped. Great ocean view and a wonderful back yard to hang out in. Fresh bread when we arrived too! Everything was as good or better than advertised. We will be back.

Perfect from sunrise to sunset

We had the good fortune of staying at this wonderful home for about a week and a half. My son is a boarding student up in Waimea, which was an easy drive for him each morning. I also had a friend visiting and we loved the location because it was close to the beaches as well as a good launchpad for adventures to Hawi, Pololū, two-step and pine trees beach not to mention many stops at Hapuna. We made frequent use of the beach supplies, including chairs, umbrellas, boogie boards, snorkel gear and towels. The home is decorated in true Hawaiian style and the neighborhood is close to everything but not touristy - a great way to experience the island “like a local”. The lanai and yard were perfect for watching the sunrise with a cup of coffee or enjoying the sunset with a glass of wine. The kitchen was extremely well stocked, and functional. We would cook up a great meal and head to the nearby Blue Dragon to take in some live music under the stars. Self checkin was also a breeze and we were greeted with a loaf of homemade bread as well as other little treats. Nicole and Nicholas were responsive hosts who have thought of everything to make the stay enjoyable and memorable. Mahalo!!

During the wettest and windiest time spent on BI, this property had everything we needed & more. We cooked all our meals at home in a gourmet kitchen with all amenities. The central location is perfect for exploring with terrific access to the ocean. Loved it!

Amazing stay!

If you are looking for a beautiful home with a wonderful view, look no further than this house. All the reviews spoke of the property having everything you could possibly need. They were not exaggerating. Nicole and Nicholas have gone to great lengths to ensure you will want for nothing. We all felt like we were staying in a five star resort! Even a couple small issues that came up during our month long stay were immediately dealt with. That in itself was extremely impressive! We arrived to all kinds of thoughtful goodies. From wine to coffee to freshly baked bread with butter and jams. There was tea and all kinds of Macadamia Nuts. It was an incredible way to start our trip! The only downside was the traffic noise but it was a small sacrifice for the quality of home, the care we received and the views. Thank you for opening your home to us. I can’t imagine ever staying some place else!
