  • Sri Dalada Maligawa, also known as Temple of the Buddha Tooth in English, is a UNESCO heritage site, and a popular place to visit for newly weds. It was awfully packed over the full moon weekend (would not recommend visiting during this period)! This pavilion-like structure at the front Paththirippuwa, or Octagon. It is a symbol of identity in Kandyan Architecture. In the olden days, the king would stand there to address his citizens who were gathered in front of him. The golden roof behind stands over the Buddha tooth relic that this temple is famous for. We enjoyed our stay at the travellers nest. When we first arrived we thought it seemed a little quiet but on the second night there was a few guests staying. The hotel staff were very friendly and extremely helpful arranging tuk tuks and taxis to take us around. The room was also pleasant and clean with a surprinsgly good shower. In addition, there was a nice balcony to chill out on in the evenings with a beer ordered from the bar.

Secluded place with difficult road

The place is ok and the breakfast was ok too. The road to the hotel was bad and there's hardly any parking!!! It's a typical 3 star place with no lift and no other facilities The wifi was terrible

Nice stay, with excellent Sri Lankan food

The hotel looks good, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. We got upgraded to the suite. We had a dinner included in our stay, but this was set menu (by one of the guests having dinner). The first day we had Sri Lankan food, which was excellent. The second day we got a cold dinner. The breakfast was great. In our stay, there was some problems with the bathroom, since there were both cockroaches and ants there. But all in all a nice stay, and a very friendly staff.
