Impressive place, extravagantly decorated. Stayed here for three nights. It didn’t start off so well for us, as I thought an extra bed for my daughter was already included in the room price. So I got a bit grumpy when it turned out we had to pay extra for it. Mistake was mine though, and to their credit, they gave us a discount.
Room was spacious and came with a great balcony with a fantastic view over Kandy. Excellent and affordable laundry service. Beautiful rooftop pool, where there was also a bar where they made great mojitos. Good breakfast buffet with omelettes and waffles cooked to order. Had Indian at the restaurant one night, and it was very good. Staff is extremely nice, and I should especially mention Chaminda, Priyantha and the guy at the pool bar (whose name I unfortunately forgot). Considering it’s a five-star hotel, we didn’t find the meals particularly expensive. But as we’re not really five-star people, did we feel kind of misplaced here? I dare say no. I particularly remember one time when we walked back from town and reached the hotel all sweaty and dirty, dressed in our shabby t-shirts and shorts. And there was the staff, smiling, and all immaculately clean and cool in their suits and dresses. We felt a bit silly, but no-one frowned at us. They always made us feel very welcome. That was nice.
