"Really lovely locally owned and run hotel.
Our kingsize upgraded room was stunning, and massive. Spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The homemade shortbread in the room was incredible, and they even refilled it when we scoffed it all!
Breakfast was tasty, and the hot food was made to order.
The on-site gym “The Unit” was really great and fully included in the room rate, which felt like a treat!
They are clearly modernising the hotel to an high standard, and as far as we saw only the room corridors and stairs were still to be upgraded.
The parking was free and plentiful, and it’s a great base for exploring the surrounding area.
All the staff were exceptionally lovely & friendly (with the one exception of the older gent who checked us in who treated us like an inconvenience, and shouldn’t really be working in hospitality)

"The food is great but very expensive, although Ballater is an expensive place to stay. Evening meal and bar lovely, breakfast amazing. Nice feel to the hotel, very traditional and cosy.
We stayed in a standard room, which is basic. Mattress and pillows felt cheap, it overlooked properties but there was no net curtain to offer privacy, dusty, TV had no apps to log into, noise from downstairs clearly audible, door in the hallway made a creaking noise. We were pretty disappointed as the next level was almost double. "
"The lodge was very spacious, the rooms were clean, had everything you needed including a cooker, microwave, dishwasher and fridge.
All you need for a home away from home. Next time we will probably bring our own food stay a little longer and have a good look around the area. "

"Did not use all the facilities but had a wonderful stay. Be great to have a similar hotel near Aviemore as that is where we spent most our time. Loved the spacious and very clean suite that we stayed in."
"First visit to this hotel. Lots of scan to pay for parking signs around, but you DON'T pay if staying at the hotel. Very nice welcome, easy check in and a very nice room. We had a couple of drinks in the very pleasant bar area before going out for the evening. We didn't eat at the hotel. The bed was lovely to sleep in and the room temperature was comfortable. Had a good breakfast in the morning before heading home. Excellent stay."
"What should have been a special, long-overdue break turned into a complete disaster.
My wife and I were evacuated in the middle of the night due to a gas leak—a genuinely frightening experience. We were abruptly forced out of the hotel with no proper reassurance or handling of the situation, which alone is unacceptable.
We were offered “alternative accommodation,” but it did not have the same facilities or standard as what we had paid for. Given the circumstances and the time of night, we chose to make our own way home instead.
This was our first time away since having our son, and the trip was completely ruined.
To make matters worse, the hotel has refused any refund or compensation, despite the stay being cut short due to a serious safety issue entirely outside of our control. That response speaks volumes about how they treat their guests when something goes wrong.
Safety concerns, a ruined stay, and zero accountability. I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere if you value basic duty of care and customer service."
