Right on the water
With a little effort this property would be well worth it. The 3 decks advertised are filthy! The outside furniture is basically unusable! My husband can to clean everything up so we could fish on the lower deck. The kayaks are covered in spiderwebs as well as the hammocks. Loved the neighborhood but next visit we would find somewhere else to stay.

Location makes this house
House is on the water and location is wonderful! House is in need of lots of updates, maintenance and cleaning. In the end we decided to focus on the beauty Of the surroundings. We had a great time!

My husband & I choose this place for our 3 day holiday weekend with our family and when we arrived I was highly disappointed and a bit embarrassed. Was looking forward to sitting outside on the lake, but the entire outside area (all seating) full of spider webs & was filthy dirty. Looked as if it has not been cleaned in sometime. The railing along the upper deck was loose and almost falling very unsafe for my 6 year old granddaughter or anyone for that matter. There were a few nails sticking out of the deck along the water. The kitchen sink drains out directly onto the stairs leading down to dock, right onto electrical lights hanging there. Very unsanitary The overall place looked & felt very dirty & just unkept. The advertisement for this place is very misleading to say the least For what we paid to stay here for 3 nights I expected a lot more than what we got, and would of at least liked to see it for what it really looks like to be able to make the decision whether to spend my money here! I have taken pictures of all of this and would love to post here on VRBO but there does not appear to be option for it.

Great home on the lake!
This is a great property on the lake! Keep in mind that this house is right on the water, so there are some bugs and insects to deal with - keeping all the doors closed helps keep them out, but if you want an outdoors/indoors experience, this is something you’ll have to deal with to some unavoidable degree. Overall the house has a wonderful setup for a small family or group getaway (the 1 bathroom wasn’t an issue for us). The only thing that could have made our stay better was a little more attention to detail on the cleaning and preparation for our arrival. Several lights didn’t work due to broken or old bulbs and the main light in the master bedroom was out so it was dark in there all the time. Other than that, it’s a great property to really enjoy all water activities, sunsets and a lakeside getaway!

On the water!!

Location was great
We had a great week. There was a small issue getting the correct code for check in, but Chuck had someone contact us with the new code very quickly. The inside of the house is clean, but could use a little TLC. The outside had a lot of bugs and cobwebs, but after a thorough sweeping we were able to enjoy all the spaces! There are shady areas as well as places to soak up the sun. It was so convenient not to have to trek 'down to the lake.' We just had to walk down the steps and jump in. Overall, the house allowed our family to have a relaxing week.

Much better than a hotel but needs some maintenance
Nice place over the river. Needs some TLC. Lots of bugs in deck rafters, dryer didnt work, kitchen sink was clogged. But the AC and tons of windows with decent amount of space was good for the four of us. You need to walk up and down many stairs from parking to the house. That means carrying things up and down.

Perfect lake house on the water with boat
This was our second time to rent this property and just like the first time we had a blast. There are multiple deck areas so everyone could have me time when needed to step away from the fun. We enjoyed the boat we rented for a day and the kayak that was available. The house was clean and stocked with everything we needed to prepare our meals (bring your own groceries). I have read previous reviews and don’t understand the complaints unless those renters were looking for a posh hotel suit. This is the best rental on this lake if your group intends to play in the water vs looking at it. We plan on coming back again. Thanks for having us Chuck T

Served it’s purpose and our family had a great time
Our family of 8 had an amazing time at this property. The diving boards were awesome. The fishing was fantastic. We were a bit worried about only one bathroom but it was never an issue. The only issues we had was the amount of bugs/spiders inside and outside and as mentioned in other reviews, the lighting on the docks downstairs was very poor. We took our own lighting which resolved the first issue. We communicated with Chuck about the spiders inside and he came and sprayed to try and rectify the issue. While there were still a lot of spiders inside we really appreciated his attempt to come out and spray.

Disgusting, filthy...my wife wanted to leave the minute we arrived!
VRBO should take this property off their site. It was the most awful stay we have ever experienced. The floors, carpets and decks were dirty, planters overgrown with weeds, some used as cigarette ash trays, chairs warn, and cushions torn, insects and spider webs all over. We were bitten by Chiggers and mosquitos. Doors did not close properly, kitchen utensils worthless, shower head in bathroom practically falling out of the wall…too many things to list.

Great for enjoying the waterviews and access
The best thing about this property is being on the water. We caught a few small bluegill and catfish on worms. Groceries and fast food are within a few minutes, 20 minutes to fishing at McFarland park or nice restaurants downtown. The condition of the property isn’t pristine. It’s kinda like staying at your “granny’s”. It smells a little funny, furnishings are outdated and a little tired but don’t let that keep you from booking the place if you’re gonna spend the majority of your time outside enjoying the many decks and fire pit. It’s definitely not appropriate if you’re traveling with small kids or elderly. There are steep steps down to the property, an ackward descent to the lower level (needs a baby gate to keep someone from taking a tumble) and no railings on the bottom level. Also there’s only 1 bathroom. It wasn’t an issue this trip with 3 boys but if filled to capacity with 10 people, it would be a juggling act. The bedrooms were not spacious but the linens were clean and we slept well every night. We will stay again if returning to the area because the location and outdoor amenities were great.

Great weekend getaway with family on the river. A very relaxing time at this lake house. Plenty of outdoor areas to hang out and play in the water. Definitely recommend renting the pontoon boat which was easy peasy since it is delivered dock side at the house. Loved that the water was just steps away.

Perfect Nature Therapy Experience
Our family absolutely loved this property! You will not find another rental as convenient as this for the river experience. For instance you can take the dreaded walk up and down steps usually needed to go from dock to house out of the equation. There is also a shower outside to rinse the lake water off so you can stay outside and enjoy what you came for, time with family and friends enjoying one another and nature. This house is 100% stocked with everything you need. Just grab your groceries on the way. We rented Chuck’s pontoon boat and enjoyed it as well. But the highlight of our stay was the diving boards and the 3 deck areas. We have stayed at several lake houses in Tennessee and this quickly became our favorite. Thank you Chuck for sharing your little piece of heaven. We hope you will have us again.

Family Vacation
This lake house was the perfect place for me and my family of 6. There was plenty of room for everyome to feel comfortable. The outdoor deck areas were the best part. Home was fully stocked with everything we needed for cooking and grilling. We will definitely return to this rental again. Chuck was easy to get in contact with any needs. We also rented a Pontoon boat from Chuck and had it docked at the home so easy to come in and out off the lake for quick meals. Great week at the lake!!

Wonderfully relaxing location!
This was just what my family needed. We enjoyed a few days of down time. My boys had a wonderful time fishing off the dock and hanging out in the hammocks and swings. My oldest asked when we were returning. Fabulous time and highly recommend!!

A fantastic, relaxing time on Shoal Creek!
Upon arrival there was ample room to park our boat trailer and vehicle, plus the place was spotless! Comfort around every corner- Plenty of deck chairs, rockers, hammocks, swing seats- You name it. Caught a few catfish off the dock, plus 50 more fish (Bass, Bluegill & Sunfish) from the boat within a mile of the place! The master bed was extremely comfortable too. Will definitely be returning! Thanks for a great getaway!

Beautiful View / Hospitable and Accommodating Home Owner
My husband and I needed a long 4-day weekend to decompress / relax before beginning to build a new home. I didn't care where we went, I just knew I wanted to be on the water. Luckily, I came across this cozy little home. You can tell Chuck takes a lot of pride and care in this place, as evidenced my the cleanliness, the easy-listening jazz music welcoming us through the speakers when we arrived, and the beautiful flowers on all the decks that you just know requires a lot of care and upkeep to stay so gorgeous. Chuck sent me his cell phone number and quickly answered any inquiries I had during our stay. Another word about the cleanliness - I'm one of those "germ-aware" people that brings a black light with her and cleaning supplies to basically re-clean everything the maid already cleaned before our arrival. It is very unusual to find a place that is so clean that I felt my re-cleaning didn't really serve a purpose - but this was that place. There aren't a whole lot of touristy things to do less than 30 mins away, but if you're looking for a lazy place to unwind (which we were), this is your place. There is a grocery store conveniently located less than 10 minutes down the road so you buy a week's worth of food and then never leave the cabin, if you like. We brought a Roku to stream video on the TVs while we were there. We also connected both of our phones, tablets, and my laptop. The WIFI signal was strong enough to support it all. If, while staying here, you're looking for some fine dining, I recommend the 360 Grille, a revolving restaurant with an amazing view of the Wilson Dam. It is just 15-20 mins away from the house and serves a crab cake that is listed in Alabama's top 10 things to eat - DELICIOUS. Chuck, thanks again for allowing my husband, pups, and I to stay in your beautiful home. We hope to visit again one day!

AMAZING!
What a memory maker for me and my family! We booked a very last-minute trip and Chuck was wonderful to work with! We thoroughly enjoyed the house and the high dive was a hit! Wonderful breeze on one of the many decks every morning for coffee. Absolutely love the adjustable bed in the master bedroom! Very clean and accommodating and we will be back again regularly :-)

Right on the water!
We had a wonderful stay here. This part of the lake is quiet enough for swimming and relaxing but also close to the main lake. I could walk right out of the door and sit by the water. My teenagers loved jumping off the diving boards. Great place for older kids; however, it is not very small child friendly. We would definitely stay here again.

We had a fantastic July 4th at this property, pretty spacious, and very sunny . House was well stocked and clean. Would use it again in a heartbeat. Lots of steps but more than ok.

Most all of the lake homes in our area have steps but this lake home seems to have less steps than most since it is only 36 steps to the home and are about half as steep than most because they are twice as wide and on a less slope than most also. I always like to tell people that my 90 year old grandmother can still get up and down them. I think what makes it unique compared to most all other lake homes is once you are at the home you don't have to climb anymore steps to reach the water since this home sits on top the lake! Of course if a guest comes by boat to the home, like my guest did today, then you only have about ten steps to the main floor! Thanks again for being so nice and easy to work with plus your feedback and positive review! Please keep my rentals in mind for your future getaways!

PERFECT HOUSE ON THE LAKE!
We had a blast at this unique lake house. It literally sits on the lake!!! Sit with your feet soaking in the water or cast a line out and catch your dinner that night, either way you don't even have to leave the house. The deck space this house has is unbelievable with tons of lounging chairs and hammocks, perfect for entertaining. There's even 2 diving boards on both decks to jump in and enjoy a swim! We spent most of our time outside on the decks fishing and caught several bass, catfish and brim for a fish fry. There are some stairs that you have to take to get to the house, but Chuck has it well lit and its not steep so it didn't give us any trouble at all. I will say that this house is perfect for adults and older children/teens. The different layers of the deck may be harder for small children and/or toddlers. Inside this house is just as awesome. Lounge on the huge comfy couch while enjoying the stunning views of the lake from the large windows in the living room. The kitchen also has a large sliding glass window with views of the lake & has been updated with stainless steel appliances and includes all the amenities you might need. All 3 bedrooms had comfortable beds and the water pressure in the shower was perfect! On top of everything, Chuck has been so great and always communicated with us whenever we needed him or had questions. So if you are looking for a place to get the full lake experience, this is it! We have already started planning our next trip to come back. Next time, we'll rent a pontoon and we'll park it in one of the 2 boat lifts. Thanks Chuck for an awesome time!!!

Relaxing Getaway and Fishing Fun!
We really enjoyed our time at this property! My husband and myself love to fish and this was the perfect place for us to do just that! There is plenty of space to have family and friends if you wanted to. We brought our boat and the owner let us use the attached dock to secure it there throughout our visit. He was very accommodating to any questions and requests. The house was very clean, nicely decorated, and had wonderful views of the lake. There are stairs on the property, but they did not pose a problem for us at all as we did not bring children on our anniversary trip. The kitchen was fully equipped with cooking equipment and dishes. We enjoyed spending our days on our boat and the evenings fishing from the dock. We were able to catch and release 54 fish during our stay! If you are looking for a great place to relax, unwind, and enjoy the lake this is the place for you!
