Olympia (Greek: Ὀλυμπία; Ancient Greek: [ˈolympia]; Modern Greek: [ˈolibia] Olympía), a sanctuary of ancient Greece in Elis on the Peloponnese peninsula, is known for having been the site of the Olympic Games in classical times.

The Olympic Games were held every four years throughout Classical Antiquity, from the 8th century BC to the 4th century AD. The first Olympic Games were in honor of Zeus.

The Olympic Games (Greek: Ολυμπιακοί αγώνες , "Olympiakoi Agones") were a series of athletic competitions among representatives of city-states and one of the Panhellenic Games of Ancient Greece. They were held in honor of Zeus, and the Greeks gave them a mythological origin. Historical records indicate that they began in 950-776 BC in Olympia. They continued to be celebrated when Greece came under Roman rule, until the emperor Theodosius I suppressed them in 394 AD as part of the campaign to impose Christianity as the state religion of Rome. The games were held every four years, or olympiad, which became a unit of time in historical chronologies.

“Staff went over and beyond to explain to us how to get to places from the hotel, and provided a taxi directly to the port when we left. They were attentive to our dining needs, and very friendly. Our room was very clean and got housekeeping daily. Family friendly atmosphere, and the pool was very clean. We throughly enjoyed our stay here. ”

“Lovely old style family-run hotel in a great location. Very friendly and clean. We had a city view which was very inexpensive and not very loud at all. Good aircon and slept very soundly. The five euro continental breakfast was amazing value and a good selection of breads, pastries, meats, juices and cereals - nice sea view optional! The owners were lovely and friendly. We definitely recommend this hotel and we will be back in future! Thank you.”

“Very good hotel and facilities. Close to town and bars or club for the younger generation. The food is amazing and the casino has a very big selection of slot machines. The service was a bit slow around the pool area. The fridge in the room was hardly cold. If you were to store fresh milk, it would go off.”

“Beautiful location directly on the Gulf of Corinth with views of sea from our room. Excellent breakfast, better than what we had on the Norwegian Viva. It’s a bit outside of Corinth but definitely worth being called a resort. We drove to wine country near Nemea and had a fabulous time. Misti’s winery there was great.”
