Puerto Jiménez King Louis Waterfall Hotels

"This was the most exceptional place--a truly special corner of the world. I feel bad for anyone who visits Costa Rica and stays anywhere else. Our group consisted of two nature-loving families (including 3 kids total). The pool, diving board, and waterfall/waterslide were magical. Our kiddos could not have been happier. It was their own secluded water park. We saw all four species of monkeys (squirrel, capuchin, howler and the endangered Geoffrey's spider monkey) from the house. Plus coatis and peccaries and agoutis and toucans and macaws. Saw a sloth down the road near Martina's Bar. Watched a meteor shower from the platform on our first night while we listened to the frog chorus. The Matapalo Beach road to the house is a proper adventure! Our little Suzuki Jimny rental handled it like a champ! Do not expect to pop out for groceries. That would be a half-hour outing to Puerto Jimenez. The nearby beach is a skip down the driveway. It is spectacular and great for splashing in the huge waves, but too intense for regular swimming. Next time we'll take surf lessons! Our host, Carlos was wonderful and welcoming and so generous with his time and local knowledge. He shared his obvious love and respect for the place where he lives. Sianne and Daniel kept everything so tidy and were such lovely people as well. Venus, the sweet dog, made a few welcome appearances and had her own special chores! I do hope we get to visit again in the future! Pura vida!"

"If you want to be right in the middle of nature and wildlife this is the place to go. Most of the resort is raised up into the treetops so you can be eye level with creatures you'd usually only see way above you from the ground. The included hikes and birdwatching were wonderful with very knowledgeable and passionate guides. We also arranged a day trip to Corcovado by boat through the lodge in advance, seems pricey at first but was well worth it. Over the course of a week we saw sloths (lodge & Corcovado), monkeys (everywhere), tapirs (Corcovado), ant eaters (lodge and Corcovado), coatis (lodge), frogs and lizards (lodge) and so many different birds (everywhere). We chose a forest bungalow room which is just screened in from the outside. I was a bit worried the lack of AC might make it too hot to sleep, but at the end of April the fans in the room were enough to keep us comfortable over night. No need for alarm clocks, the howler monkeys will get you up every day. Overall a fantastic nature focused lodge that combines the ability to relax with adventure."

This is a special place where you are immersed in the jungle and will see monkeys, red mackaws, many birds and other creatures. Rodrigo is on the property and responds rapidly to any questions or concerns."

"The room was very clean and nice, although there was a big crack under the door so a lot of little critters could come in which was kinda cute with the exception of a scorpion that stung my boyfriend. Zayro was very communicative and friendly. The pool was also very clean and private which was great. My biggest gripe is the drive there is about 20 minutes of very bumpy off-roading which we were not made aware of. There is also no cell service on this road so if you get stuck with a flat tire, you may not be able to get help easily. Also, I believe they turned off our AC remotely since we left it on for a while. That was a bit irritating. other than that, we enjoyed our stay!"

"There are not enough positive words we can say about this place. It was truly an astonishing, incredible and unforgettable experience. We intended to go on a guided tour into the national park via the sirena ranger station before we arrived, but there was no need as all the wildlife you could ever hope for was right there on your doorstep. We saw 3 out of the 4 species of monkey native to Costa Rica including the Capuchin, Howler and spider monkey, we saw pelicans flying along the beach, Macaw Parrots, Pigs, Coati, Agouti and numerous birds and insects. Joel the host and owner is amazing, he couldn't help us enough and even treated us to a personal guided walk through the rainforest in a secret location very close by. We never return to the same location as there is alot of the world we have on our travel list, but this is the first time that we are considering going back. If you like being as close to nature as possible while having your creature comforts this is the place for you. There are no walls to the treehouse which means you are always at one with nature, it is truly magical. A wonderful place to stay for my 40th birthday. A word of warning, you must hire a 4x4 vehicle with a good amount of clearance. Our vehicle was a Mitsubishi ASX which was JUST high enough. It was good fun getting there but would of been even more enjoyable if we got a better off roader. Stock up at supermarket at Puerto Jimenez and fuel up before you leave. Thank you again Joel.
