Ok but would not stay again
Probably would not stay again if I had a choice. Room door had a class panel on top which let light in at night and couldn't be changed. Plus you could hear noise from hallway. Bathroom shower area had some mold, etc. and needed a refresh. Restaurant was alright. Food took a long time to get. Breakfast was ok, nothing special. Staff was friendly and helpful.

The building is quite beautiful and has potential but the air conditioning didn’t work and water quality was very poor. We also had locked our room and found it unlocked the day we were checking out but no staff around - made us feel uneasy

We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the air conditioning in the room, we have been facing major issues with regards to repairs but maintenance are working 24/7 on this and we hope to have this sorted immediately. Also there was a malfunction with the pumps from the water supplier in the county but this has now been resolved. One of our priorities at Sovereign is to ensure the safety of our guests and you can be rest assured that no staff (except for room stewards) is allowed access to a guest's room. Our door locking system is electronic accessible only via a coded key to a particular room. We will however look into this to re-ensure that the operating system is working accordingly.We hope to get the chance to host you again in Sovereign and look forward to your next visit.

International standard. Professional staff.
What a nice boutique hotel!! The staff members were truly professional and very well spoken, from the guard who you'd meet coming in to the front office, restaurant and room service. The rooms are very clean, well decorated and cozy (my photos cannot do it justice). I booked the executive room the hopes of a view of lake. You could spot it in the distance from an angle but this will soon be difficult with the building propping up across the way. Breakfast was awesome and the hotel ambience was something else. All staff members were attentive and always at my service if I needed anything. The personalised service provided made my birthday memorable. The room service ladies brought up the surprise cake that my som had ordered and sang in a very pleasant manner. I was very pleased. I got real VIP treatment that reminded me of many a international hotel. I was very appreiative of late check out which meant a lot due ot my evening flight. I got to enjoy the rest of the facilities before taking a taxi to the airport. I'll be back for sure.

While the hotel rooms are spacious and nice the maintenance is poor. There were problems with internet all through the week long stay. There was problems with hot water that took several days to fix. There is mold in the bathroom and bedsheets were torn. The hotel has seen better days. The staff were friendly and helpful but the overall stay was disappointing!

Good change
Quite impressed, there was positive change compared to my previous stays. The management seems to be working on the previous complaints. It’s a good property in a good quiet n safe location. Management should work on keeping the standards.

Can do better
The hotel is generally good only that they need to improve on being thorough with their cleaning, and service at the restaurant. Seats in the room had this strong dusty smell which was quite uncomfortable considering both my kids are asmatic. The hotel too need to focus on maintenance, i.e sockets, bathroom area. Restaurant is a big disappointment, Ordered for food and the first time the chips masala came full of lemon and was unbeatable. Second time ordered for fish fillet and stir fried chicken, the fish came in raw had to return it back, chicken was full of tumeric and uneatable too. The waitress serving us offered to call the chef for for us to explain our dissatisfaction and he declined coming up to talk to us.... and to make it worse we were charged for both meals. The hotel should seriously pay attention to their kitchen section.

Nice charming hotel in Kisumu
The hotel was clean, nicely appointed and a great place to stay in Kisumu. Staff were welcoming and friendly, I would recommend at the place to stay.

Good hotel
Pleasant service. Breakfast is decent. Power went out a few times due to rain storm, glad they have a generator. Wifi very slow, seem to be a conference going on.

Nice stay for business trip
The rooms are nice. The restaurant menu selection has been expanded. The wifi was slow most of the time. Much of the staff friendly and have been there for a number of years, which makes me happy to stay at a place where people enjoy working.

Nice Kisumu hotel
My preferred hotel in Kisumu, as it has a restaurant on site, nice sitting area in room and pool area to relax. The wifi was very slow during this visit. Glad for the air conditioning as it was very humid. The in-room refrigerator is connected to the electric unit which only works when the room key is present, therefore if you leave, the refrigerator turns off so your items will not stay cold.

Location of the Hotel is quiet. Near to lakeVicotria, but no direct way to the lake The City Center from Kisumu you reach in a few minutes.

Probably the best hotel in Kisumu
Whilst I've not stayed at other hotels in Kisumu the Sovereign was very nice and definitely has a reputation as the best hotel in town. The facilities, though a little limited are very nice and the level of service was excellent, in a relaxed friendly way. The only reason I gave them a 4 overall was some difficulties concerning my bill on checkout. The reception twice informed me that I had to pay for the room, even though I had already paid for it through Hotels.com. The problem was eventually resolved, but took some time.

Comfortable
A very comfortable hotel in Kisumu but fairly basic for the price. My room had a nice view of the lake and the aircon worked well, which is something that can be quite hard to find! Staff here are really great but service in the restaurant is pretty slow.

Lovely Kisumu Hotel in Leafy Neighborhood
The Sovereign Hotel is the nicest in Kisumu, situated in a leafy suburb on the outskirts of town. The rooms are spacious, although somewhat sparsely appointed. The pool and lounge area surrounding it are lovely. The breakfast is rather disappointing and the service can be rather slow (even by Kenya hotel standards).
