Kahana Sunset D8

Beautiful setting with tortoises on beach!

Very easy check in and out process. Loved the private beach and conveniently located pool, which had a filtered water machine for refilling our bottles. Grateful for that. We were pleasantly surprised to be snorkeling alongside several tortoises right there at the beach. Some even sleep on the sand. Such a delight! Great views for whale season, as we could spot them regularly swimming by. Convenient location with nearby market, restaurants, and plenty of other beaches a few minutes away.

We've rented from Sullivan the past 10 years. Overall positive experience on the property and checking in. However, this year we stayed in D8 and were pretty disappointed. They place needs a refreshment - its very tired and worn. And all the kitchen supplies were below average and insufficient. hard to spend and cook there.

Needs an Update

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The beds and pillows were worn out and uncomfortable. Several things needed repairing and cleaning. Kitchen utensils and containers were lacking. We were disappointed that 5ge bbqs and patio near the ocean were closed. The a/c timer in the second bedroom didn't work properly.The view was nice. We e stayed here for many years but won't be returning if they don't upgrade the unit and lower the price.

Wanted to love it

Rating Details: The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was happy with the location. I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This poor condo has so much potential. Other reviews have mentioned the carpet tack strip but it still isn't fixed and my kids poked themselves multiple times. You will absolutely want to buy toilet paper. The sink in the master has a faucet handle that falls off, the dryer was making an awful sound, the door in the master squeaks and is very annoying, the AC time wouldn't wouldn't turn off so it was really cold the last few days, the amount of light in the master is truly awful, the microwave and some other things like the floor were very dirty, and the master TV was very difficult to figure out (we never did.) The view is amazing. The pool was only open until 8 which really bummed my kids out.

Beautiful Property!

It's a great location being beachfront and the grounds are beautiful with palms, fruit and flowering trees, herbs and tropical plants surrounding the pool area. The condo is well stocked being perfect for us to cook at the condo or grill at the barbecue area. The beds were comfortable for a great night's rest.

And we couldn't have been more happy with our decision.. we just love the Western shores of Maui and kahana sunset did not let us down. Weather your relaxing by the pool side and enjoying the beautiful pool or if you're lounging ocean side on the gorgeous beach. Kahana sunset does not disappoint you. Wildlife in the ocean is extraordinary! We were able to find sea turtles and swim with them everyday that we were there for the one week. Priceless!!

Needs a new mattress and some repairs.

Bringing in my 70th Birthday with wife and daughter!

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The trip and rental was wonderful! Perfect weather, snorkeling and breaching humpbacks dinner shows! D-8 is a very nice location and great view. Very Helpful staff. Nicely cleaned BBQ’s, and neat as a pin unit upon our arrival. Thank you! That said, it’s no surprise that D-8 is getting tired and is in some need for a handyman to get in there and do a little work.The utensil drawer just to the right of the dishwasher is all out of square, difficult to open/close and squeals like piggy when pulled in and out. An elderly person might not even get it open.There is also some texture peeling off one of the interior walls.There are some carpet tack strips sticking up just under the carpet where the carpet meets the bathroom floor up in the primary bedroom. I cut my foot on them with just my weight. They need to be slammed down with a hammer. The glass slider doors were difficult for Aimee and Sophia to get open and then locked. Need some adjustment.The primary bedroom closet door does not open/close properly. It just shimmies and shakes when you attempt to open or close.If it were my unit I’d run down to Costco and spend a few hundred $ just upgrading several of the utensils and small appliances. Maybe a new toaster. One frying pan has a handle that is ready to fall off. A lot of the kitchenware has a feel like you’re camping. Wouldn’t take much for your owner to bring that kitchen up to speed.. And that primary shower is going to need some re-grouting soon..Very tight parking in those narrow stalls between the posts, making it difficult to get in and out when wide cars are in there..I don’t think they planned on cars going that wide when they first built that place. That’s it. Front door lock code worked great. I will end where I started. Fantastic Trip!! I am now in double figures in trips to Kahana Sunset o

You can do better!

The property itself is quite lovely. There is a nice view from the main deck as well as the master bedroom deck. The grounds are well looked after and are beautiful. Now for the bad stuff: the kitchen cabinets are peeling and the two large drawers barely slide open. The range and fridge are dated. The bed in the master had a huge depression on one side. The shower in the secondary suite barely drains, it quickly becomes a bath. And the shower door doesn’t close. There’s a number of spots where the wallpaper is peeling as well.

Great Location

This is a great location. The property is just as described and pictures are accurate. The unit is a little dated, but the view is beautiful. Beautiful sunsets right from your balcony. I love that you can lay out on the chairs on the grass above the ocean and don't have to get sandy. There are also stairs to access the ocean if you want to go in. Parking is right in front of the unit & covered. The AC works great. It rained one day and there is an remote controlled awning that comes out over the patio, so you can still enjoy outside. I will recommend to anyone who wants to go to Maui.

Overall, it was a satisfactory experience. My only suggestion might be to be more realistic on pool quiet hours. Many families were here during my stay and it's hard to expect kids to not laugh and play in the pool at 6pm. Quiet hours should be later. My unit was a an older unit. Could use some updating or general fixing. Kitchen sink leaked as sealant was likely too old. Cleanliness could be better. I found a hair scrunchy under my bed that did not belong to my family. Sooooo glad there was AC! It was very warm in Maui during my stay.

love the location!

Overall the property is very well maintained and the gounds are beautiful. We stayed for 8 nights and loved it!! Our Unit D8 is a little older then some of the other models that have been updated. And unfortunately the dishwasher was broken and not able to be fixed while we were there. Although we were told Tuesday, then Thursday then we left Friday--still not fixed. Good news we got to leave dishes, but would of been nice to have a working DW. We would love to come back! and have already planted the seed for a return trip!
