「The hotel is perfectly functional, staff were helpful and the rooms were just fine. Having to walk through cigarette smoke from the staff smoking at the lobby entrance took the shine off things though. Idar-Oberstein itself is not what I expected. It's all a bit shabby, run-down and sad. In the centre we saw a lot of poverty, homelessness and on the street drinking which made it feel a little edgy and unsafe.
