The Castle Life

My beautiful apartment, in the heart of Lisbon, is part of the São Jorges’ Castle history – it is located in the Villa built for the castle workers to live in, back in the 1940s’, when the restoration interventions of the Castle took place.

After a day out exploring, enjoy a glass of wine by the window and watch the sunset over the River. It's an authentic experience!

The apartment features:

The second floor refurbished attic, maintains it's original low ceilings and trendy decor.

It is now a refreshed stylish and comfortable place to stay uphill, right by the Castle, with great transport links - 2 minutes away from the closest bus station and 10 minutes away walking uphill from the subway stations of Rossio and Martim Moniz.

To access to the apartment you will find two free lifts that can help climbing (Elevador do Castelo – Rua dos Fanqueiros and Elevador do Chão do Loureiro) and an escalator in Martim Moniz, then you will find some stairs that you need to climb.

Explore the traditional neighborhood of Mouraria and enjoy this unique part of Lisbon that is one of the historical districts with greater tradition and history and the place of birth of the Portuguese traditional music genre of Fado. I hope you enjoy your stay!

Next to Castle Lots of Hills

Tidy and quiet apartment in the middle of popular walking area around C. Sao Jorge. Space is a little tight but enough for 4 adults. Taxi and uber may have difficulty accessing this street so be prepared to move luggage over hilly cobblestone -- just part of the experience

The apartment was perfect for 3 days stay and in a good location. I arrived late due to flight delays and the property manager ensured I was able to get in way past check in time, so I’m very appreciative of that. Property manager also provided recommendations of places to eat and things to do in the area via WhatsApp

Incredible Location and Professional Service

Perfect location, incredible management company running the property and clean and comfortable. The service level and communication was unbelievable and I would recommend this spot …. newly renovated bathroom, perfect little kitchen and comfortable beds with super clean linens …. Historic neighbourhood stay

This apartment had almost everything we wanted in a short vacation stay - a great historic location, not super-touristy, good amenities nearby and wonderful views of Lisbon. Lots of stairs to climb to get to this location. We located one working escalator and an elevator so that made the journey to the flat easier after long days of sightseeing. Subway, streetcar and Contente grocery store are within walking distance. The Folks Coffee is a great place for breakfast and fantastic coffee. There was an issue with a poorly draining bathroom sink which has hopefully been rectified by now. Overall, a small flat ideal for two travellers on a short stay.

Objects in pictures are smaller than they appear.

The apartment is very small, especially for 6 people. In one of the bedrooms, the only place to open luggage was on the bed and there is no storage for any of your belongings in any bedroom. The communal area is tight as well. Also, you will not be able to carry your luggage to the loft bc access is essentially a steep ladder. We asked for early check in because our flight arrived at 11 am. Not only was that not an option, but we had to check in at 4:30 , later than promised. We had to store our luggage in a local souvenir shop. You need to have 18 euros to pay some fees upon arrival and the hostess conveniently did not have change. Plus, you need the keys to enter and exit the apartment. When we tried to leave in 3 groups, 2 groups had the keys and one group got locked in the stairwell. They couldn’t enter the apartment nor could they exit through the front door. The main problem is that Uber drivers and many taxis do not have access to the road in front of the apartment. So you need to drag your luggage uphill front the closest drop off site on cobblestone streets for at least 0.3-0.4 miles…. So pack light! Also, take a tuk tuk or taxi to the location (and ask if the have a pass to access the residential roads). There is air conditioning so that’s a plus. That being said, the location was wonderful and we really enjoyed walking the lovely streets around the castle and the oldest church in Lisbon.

Immersed in the past

An updated apartment with the basics, manager took care of broken lock on building when we arrived. Loft bedroom has steep ladder stairs but they were manageable. Beds were firm. Great location up many cobblestone steps, cute restaurants and cafes nearby. Witness the daily pilgrimage to the castle. Great views.

Perfect location and spacious

My father and I stayed here for 10 days and enjoyed our time immensely. The location is perfect and quiet, but it’s a 5 minute walk to many restaurants and shops. The apartment itself was exactly as pictured and had plenty of room for the 2 of us, and could’ve easily fit multiple other family members. The communication with the host and property managers was great as well. They were all so lovely and went above and beyond to help us with anything.

Nice property near downtown and right below the castle. The place is very clean and the beds are comfortable. A/C works well and the view is perfect.
