The gem of this property was the view and the backyard. The layout of the house was conducive for our large group. The neighborhood was quiet and safe, and our grandchildren enjoyed riding their bikes around the pebbled roads. Nice short ride to the beach, too.
I think the pictures of the property were very dated. The interior was well worn and full of mold. The cover on the sofa had visible mold as did the floor of the bathroom and other places where the fabric had not been washed or changed in some time.
The kitchen counter was stained beyond cleaning and was falling apart around the edges. Every time we used the paper towels, the underneath of the cupboard above, shed tiny pieces of particle board. Many of the utensils were unusable. ( Potato masher was rusted beyond using and the can opener was broken.)
There were old candles on the window sill above the sink with bugs melted in the wax. The light above the dining room table was very dusty. The stove wasn't deep enough to hold a cookie sheet.
The outdoor shower, while convenient, contained electrical that was not up to code. There was even a sign near the light that asked that when you turned the light on to make sure your hands were dry! The curtains within the outdoor shower were completely stained and moldy.
The linens were old and some of it was pilled and stained, and don't get me started on the pillows! Completely stained with I don't know how many pints of drool and sweat etc.
I understand that a home on the coast is going to be damp etc. Clearly nothing had been done to mitigate the moisture and mold in years.
And, this has nothing to do with the owners, but the beach was small and filled with rocks. There was very little sand on which the kids could play.
I so wanted to love this place because the owners were highly responsive and communicative, but for the cost of the rental, I believe more attention to the home environs should be a priority.
