Great Get Away

I had the best time reconnecting with nature and my friends during our stay. Although it's the farthest location from the ferry, it is a beautiful home to watch the bay, fish, kayak, dip in the water, chat, unplug, and be one with the people you came with. No wifi or amenities outside of the views and rustic furniture. First time to the San Juan Islands but definitely hope to make this a bi-annual event!

Great Location

The house is in a great location. The house is a little dated- appliances and decor. The house is listed at a premium rate due to the location but lacks other amenities such as updated appliances, bedding and WiFi. Watching the wildlife was the large living rooms windows was a great way to start and end the day. The largest bedroom that states it sleeps 5 has no heating source available and is very cold at night.

Birthday getaway

We came for a relaxing weekend to celebrate my husbands birthday. Loved the view from the house, the quiet neighborhood and beach. My only cons would be that the jacuzzi jets didn’t work, the oven was very hard to get the heat right, and I spent 30 minutes trying to figure out the coffee maker. Overall we liked it and plan to come back with the family.

Amazing view, deep clean needed

The view is amazing. BUT the whole house needs a thorough deep cleaning. How hard would it be to go to target and get a good full set of kitchenware (cookware, plates, silverware, knives). Every thing feels super outdated (rugs need to be replaced). Maybe if there was actually Windex available we would have cleaned the windows ourselves. With that said we had a fantastic time.

Affordable for a Reason

If you are comfortable with a low-cost home in exchange for cleaning the property yourself, then this is probably a good stay for you. During our stay, we awoke to a bat dive bombing us in our room on the 2nd morning of our stay. When requesting assistance, VACASA stated they needed photo evidence in order to consider reimbursement or providing assistance on the issue. Of course, we did not return to the property to provide photo evidence for their own property, as we were not willing to risk our safety for their unkept home. Currently disputing the charges for the property, as VACASA has been less than helpful in resolving the issue.

A great spot, but you get what you pay for

We had a great short getaway and enjoyed sitting in the living room and outside watching otters, seals and boats pass by. This property is somewhat cheaper than some other comparable properties on Lopez and there is a reason, as indicated by many other reviewers. The home has generally not been updated much at all since it was built, so everything creaks and groans. For some strange reason, we found that most of the crockery had not been cleaned properly, so we had to clean it all off as we used it. The property management company were highly apologetic for this and offered to send somebody over to resolve it.

Stunning setting, rustic house

All about the view of Hunters Bay, with Orcas rising in the distance, and easy access to the water from the dock. We enjoyed kayaking around the bay and taking in the view from the deck (in camping chairs that we brought). The house itself is rustic and bare bones. A good structure, but with dated finishes and furniture, worn out and stained couches and chairs, a rusted and warped indoor card table used outdoors, etc. They need to replace ripped window and door screens throughout the house. Coffee pot had old coffee grounds in it when we arrived. No internet/wifi and spotty cell reception, so you will truly be unplugging! We enjoyed the stay and the house is basically as advertised, but has not been updated in the last couple decades.

Great location

We were out by 9:30am, did not notice digital checkout until 1:45pm. Not cleaned: stove top, pull out cutting board, whole deck and rail. Bath heater lights not working. Lots of switches - could be labeled. Upper left bedroom very hot - could not find control, we turned off at breaker. Deck top rail rotting. Skylights and gutters filled with debris, could cause roof damage. Electrical outlet no cover plate exposes wires. All this said, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. These safety suggestions will prolong the viability of this unique place so we can come back in the future!

Beautiful Lopez Island Setting

The location is amazing - boat launch is literally next door. The house has a nice layout that worked for our 3 generation family but it was built in the early '70s & is definitely in need of some repairs. The huge sliding door was difficult to open and close as it's so old. Windows in the living room are wood-trimmed & the trim is dusty and had cobwebs. This isn't the type of house a general cleaning company could come in and clean in a couple of hours - it's in need of a really deep clean. There were a few pieces of newer outdoor furniture on the deck but old, rickety plastic chairs were also there so we had enough places to sit but not very comfortably. The bathroom lighting upstairs has sconces by the mirror over the sink but the other light didn't work so showering at night was pretty dark. There's 3 trash cans outside but nothing was labeled for recycling so we weren't sure how to separate trash from recycling. The house worked well for us but it really is in need of some extra care. It must have been a lovely house back in the day!

A Great Friends Getaway

Although far from the ferry and from town (15 minute drive or 40 minute bike ride), it was the most spectacular view and a great "off-the-grid" vacation spot for a group of friends. Bring everything you'd need as there are little accoutrements but at least there's a grill!

Beautiful get away

This house was perfect for what we needed. Not having wifi and being secluded for a few days isn't too hard with the view from the house. Some things are a bit outdated but all in all it was great.

Poor lighting and cleaningness

My parter tripped and fell due to poor lighting out front and around the house, there were stains on bed sheets and dirty towels, there’s stains on carpet and floors. Cabinets had dirt and dust and dishes smell bad carpets and comforters had tears and holes. It was freezing cold when we arrived and it took a while to warm up the place.

Not a Luxury Vacation

Our mistake was failing to check the reviews before booking. On reading them, we were alarmed but hoped the problems had been rectified. In fact, some of them had been. There were no bats, the sliding glass door does lock and there is some newer patio furniture. Unfortunately we encountered new problems that should be documented. We have stayed in many rentals and, honestly, this is one of the highest prices we have ever paid (off season, mostly crappy weather). So to have no Wi-Fi or tv channels (just some old dvd’s, mostly for kids) is very sad. Now add to that the following: The entry key code did not work. The microwave does not work. Supposedly someone from Vacasa was bringing one out as well as giving us a credit “for our inconvenience” but we never saw either the microwave or the credit and never heard from them again. Hugely inconvenient as I mostly brought food for microwaving. There were no spoons (found them just before we left in the dishwasher, which I did not use) no coffee filters, tin foil, scissors, wine glasses, oven mitt, pepper, tea kettle, floor mat to wipe wet feet, tv remote or privacy curtains on slider. You know, basic stuff. The dryer only heats on “delicate”. Found this out the hard way after much time and experimentation and wet clothes. There was no heat upstairs. In reading old comments I noticed that someone a while back had been too hot, couldn’t control it, so switched off the breaker. Fortunately we got that back on, no thanks to Vacasa, who sit in an office far away and know very little about the property. The whole heating and lighting system is very confusing (switches that don’t do anything, lights that have no switches, etc) and there are no instructions, explanations or labels on anything. On the positive side; yes, the view is great, the house was clean inside and quiet and the proximity to some fabulous trails was wonderful. But a house with so many limitations should have that reflected in the price. Still waiting for that “credit”….

Great location not maintained

Location right on the bay was its redeeming quality. The views from the house were magnificent! That being said, the house is not maintained. Although the kitchen and bathrooms were clean, some of the dishes and pots were not that clean. The slider was hard to move. The deck needed power washed. The dining table was sticky from the finish wearing down. In spite of this, we had a great time. The beds were comfy. Enjoyed the view. Put a puzzle together. Had fun kayaking right off the beach.

Beautiful View, But Not Quite Ready for Guests

We recently stayed at this house on Lopez Island and, while it has a beautiful view and the potential to be charming, it’s important to know what to expect. The house had an eerie, somewhat neglected feel to it. There were bugs inside, a noticeable odor, and it didn’t seem ready for guests—very bare with no Wi-Fi. Upon arrival, the sliding glass door was left wide open, which was unsettling. The neighborhood has close neighbors, so privacy was limited, and there were no coverings on some of the windows. The kitchen wasn’t equipped for cooking, and at night, the house made a lot of creaks and noises, which made it hard to sleep. It felt like a once much-loved cabin from 50+ years ago, but unfortunately, it’s not as well-maintained now. This place could be a unique experience for someone looking for a rustic stay, but it’s not ideal if you’re seeking comfort and privacy.

Bring you cleaning supplies and house shoes

I rated this house 3 stars for the view and how spacious it was. Bring all of your cleaning supplies. I feel bad for the owners if they are paying someone to clean here. It would be a great place if it wasn't so grimy. Keep your shoes on in the house because nobody sweeps, vacuums or mops the floor. Bring a friend to help peel you off the sticky dining chairs! The view is incredible but you will need to wipe the previous guests handprints and dogs snot from the windows to see it.

Run down, disaster of a manager

We arrived to a bat flying throughout the house, dirty surfaces, dust bunnies throughout, broken and missing outlet covers, a kitchen lacking basic pots and dishwasher detergent, a sliding door that was inoperable, rotting outdoor furniture, a hole in the bathroom ceiling (where the bats came in, as evidenced by the bat droppings throughout that room and dripping out of the bath fan), missing trim, missing light bulbs, ancient appliances, a bathroom without tile grout and with detached tile, and rotting siding. When I called the management company to have even the basic issues addressed, the Lopez manager for the company started laughing maniacally, said I was trying to blackmail him, and hung up on me. The national office for the company sent a repair person who greased the sliding door (it worked for the next few hours, so that's something), replaced the broken outlet covers (while leaving the broken pieces on the floor), and taped the most egregious holes in the bat-access area. Then, I began receiving text messages from people within the management company trying to get me to say that they as individuals were not the person who hung up on me, seemingly trying to cover their own butts. This is not exactly how I wanted to spend my vacation. On our final morning, we awoke to a bat on the floor of the living room, not dead but not well. The company said they were shutting down the house to do some basic maintenance. I wouldn't hold my breath. The location is magical.

Beach access, otters, eagles and friendly people all around. House is older but fit us well. Plenty of space to fit 6-8 people comfortably. Nice selection of towels and plenty of pillows and blankets. Bring garage bags, foil or parchment paper if you are planning on being at the house and cooking.
