This house in Montclus has possibly the largest terraces in the village overlooking the river. The main terrace, shaded by a large old fig tree, is a wonderful spot to eating outside, enjoy a glass of local wine and soak up some summer sun. There is a recently built private pool on one side of the house and on the other, access through a gate down to the gardens and beyond these, the river, which is a popular swimming spot.
The Ground Floor of the house has a large, high ceilinged hall with enormous fireplace and windows overlooking the river. An elegant dining room with French windows opening onto the terraces, a well equipped rustic kitchen and large master bedroom with double bed and bathroom en suite.
The First Floor has four more bedrooms, one a double, two with twin beds and one with three single beds, and two bathrooms plus a shower room – making four in all. One of these with 3 beds is a mezzanine level above the hall and tends to be used for children.
Below the House are the cellars which contain the games rooms furnished with table tennis tables, darts, table football etc., a laundry room, the boiler for the oil fired central heating and wood storage for open wood fires in winter.
In 2020 we upgraded the router in the house and now have one of the only fibre optic connections in the village.
Well maintained gardens lead down to the beach front along the river which in summer are very popular with local families cooling off under the hot summer sun.
In the summer months there is a busy market on Tuesday morning in the main square where you can restock with local specialities as they are in season and there is now a decent shop selling staples in the Marie. Vans bringing bread, groceries and meat call on the village on various mornings if you do not want to range far from home. The nearest small towns are Bagnols & Goudargues, where there are local supermarkets, shops and larger markets.
Canoes can be hired for use on the river Ceze and 40 minutes away are numerous hire points for canoeing down the gorges of the Ardeche which can take a day or even an overnight stop if wished. Bicycles can be hired in Goudargues for cycling around the local villages.
On the way to Pont St Esprit there is now a zip-wire park which caters to all levels of ability and fearlessness!
There is a restaurant in the village during the summer season, Les Muriers, supplying drinks, ice creams and simple meals. Outside the village there are numerous fabulous restaurants in the surrounding hills and towns. Extensive house books exist in the house for guests use.
