Beautiful Property and Plenty of Room

We had 5 adults staying and everyone had plenty of room. Loved all the beautiful antiques and artwork all over the house. Nice to have coffee and all the "fixins" provided :) Definitely would stay here again!

Beautiful place to relax!

This house was clean and just perfect for us. We loved the location, just a mile from businesses, restarants, etc but felt as if you were in the country due to the setting and the surrounding acreage. We saw the sheep, deer, rabits, birds, squirrels, a chipmunk and a fox! We would definitely recommend!

Peaceful Pasture with Gentle Breezes

Love this little slice of paradise. Nestled among the trees on a hill, life slows down where you can read in the hammock, feed the sheep, or float in the pool. This home has everything you could possibly need for a great stay. We will be back!

A Perfect Weekend!

My college friends and I SO enjoyed this place to just be together, enjoy the pool, and reconnect! It's close to town but feels like it's FAR away. The owner is very attentive and there was nothing we needed that wasn't there. Would definitely recommend and hope to return!

Secluded Feeling

We have stayed at Shepard's retreat many times now. It is a beautiful country setting but near several cities for dining and entertainment. However, we love just spending our day outside around the pool or pond just relaxing. There are also sheep and a burrow for the kids to watch in the pasture.

Best Family Getaway!

We were in Alabama for my 14yo’s baseball tournament and were looking for a way to double the trip as a family vacation. This was the perfect way to do it! All of his games were about 30 minutes away. There was something for everyone to do at Shepard’s Retreat. Property was well maintained, hosts were great, and we are leaving rested and reconnected!

Graduation Weekend

I’ve stayed in all of Stewart’s properties and they don’t disappoint! Very attentive and there to assist with any issues. We enjoyed watching the sheep and burro in the fields…listening to the rooster crow in the am and the owl hooting at night. Comfortable nights under the porch just chatting. Highly recommended!

Peaceful - and an accommodating owner who was available daily if we had needed anything. This was everything that my 4 sisters and I were looking for to be together for our "once a year reunion". We would definitely return to this property in the future and have already recommended it to others.

It’s always a pleasure…

It’s always a pleasure staying at one of Stewart’s properties. He makes check-in easy and can be available at a moments notice. The kitchen is stocked with just about everything you need for cooking, including a whole variety of spices. The beds were comfortable. One warning: Two people cannot take showers at the same time… LOL…. We learned the hard way. But that is definitely not a reason to not stay in this lovely home. Everything is comfortable while decorated and homey. I will always recommend one of Stewart’s properties to anyone I know traveling in the Montevallo area.

good for the soul

This was my second stay at Shepherds Retreat. In the summer of 2022, my husband, son and I visited and had a wonderful time. So this summer (2023), I reconnected with a friend of 20+ years here. It was exactly what we needed. We sat in the living room, looking out over the beautiful property and talked for hours. The home itself is wonderfully kept, comfortable, and has everything you need. And the pool is so clean and refreshing. I have nothing but good things to say about Shepherds Retreat and I hope to return again next summer for a third visit. If you are looking for a place to rest, relax, and retreat - this is it.

A restful retreat!

We booked this place for some R&R and that is just what we got. It is a beautiful piece of property not far from the normal conveniences of life, ie, Walmart & Publix. I loved sitting in the living room and watching all the different birds visit the feeder on the other side and I was able to add a new one to my life list. Our last morning, a herd of 9 deer passed through the meadow in front of us. The hammocks placed around the property were a wonderful treat to relax in and read. The house was beautiful and filled with unique antiques so beautifully arranged. It would be a great place for up to 3 couples as there were doors to separate all the areas and have quiet and privacy. Plus, each bedroom area had access to it's own outside door. I would so love to return.
