Haikou is a modern city. Unless you are a great lover of beach, you might want to stay in the city instead as most of the tourist attractions like the Feng Xiao Kang Movie Theme Park, Qi luo Old Street and Red Mangrove Nature park are nearer to reach if you stay in the city. It took me about an hour to reach these places from where I stay in a cab which I booked for an entire day. The beach was fantastic though.
