Here's the scoop
Listen folks, if you are low on funds and need to stay in Manhattan for a night, this will suffice. I don't recommend couples coming here for a sexy night because the walls are thin and the ceilings are like mesh. You can hear everything. I'd say it's clean, but you can't clean built in grime. Great location. Nice staff.
No towels, toilet paper or soups. Not clean or sanitized. Filthy bathroom including toilet. Dirty floors. I won’t recommend this hotel to anyone, even my worst enemy. It’s totally bad!
I understand that this is one of the cheapest listings in Manhattan, but I did not expect this level of dirtiness on the property. You have to ask for sheets and pillow cases yourself (they didn't look clean either). If you're really tight on the budget, I'd recommend going further to other boroughs or just stay in the cleaner hostel.
It’s the bare minimum of a hotel. Unlike other people who reviewed this hotel, I don’t think it was dirty. The bed was clean. No bed bugs are anything like that. The mattress was ok. The bathroom was ok. There was so noise during the day.
Paper thin walls, the floors were filthy. Mop buckets in the hallways were disgusting. Non smoking throughout, however my room smelled like cigarettes when we arrived, and people smoked in the hallway by the fire escape, just outside our room, pretty much around the clock, and staff didn’t seem to care. The room was the exact length of the bed, and an extra 2 feet on the side, mattress was uncomfortable and I had to sleep on a diagonal to stretch out (and I’m 5’1” and petite). The only good thing was the convenience of the location. I would not stay here again and would definitely not recommend it. One of the worst budget hotels I’ve ever experienced
New York hotel cost-quality ratio is horrible and New World Hotel is no exception. Floors dirty, room 16 degrees Celsius in winter and no heating available, bed mattress condition horrific and bed extremely creaky. Warm water in shower only sporadically, TV and safety box not working and so on and so on. But when you stay in Manhattan at peak season, this is what to expect from hotels that cost "only" about 100 bucks a night so is then the fault by the provider or us the ones that choose that destination?
Trash by lobby entrance, bathroom sink stopped up, you guys not processing the payment and almost being double charged......horrible tv reception......n heat in the room. Dirty mop buckets in every stairwell, old furniture in the hallways
No elevator, you must use a high staircase to go to fifth floor with a baggage, never room makeup, safe was not working and the stuff didn't helpful with this problem, two days shampoo and soap supply and two trowels for three days stay. The stuff was very friendly.
I've stayed in many hotels throughout NYC & this is by far the worst! Wish I never booked a room here. No one should pay money to stay at this place. Too many things wrong here. Key had a hard time turning just to unlock the door. The bedroom & bathroom were very dusty, as if no one had been there for years. The sheets on the bed weren't clean, had stains, hair, & dust. The room didn't have a phone (or a clock) so I had to go downstairs to tell them that the sheets weren't clean. The guy at the front desk gave me "clean sheets" only for me to find out when I got back upstairs that even though those sheets were cleaner, they were still dirty with red stains. The comforter was even dirtier & one corner of it had a big yellow stain resembling urine. Even though the windows were closed, you could still feel a draft of cold air coming in so the room was very cold & not much heat was provided throughout the night. The ceiling near one of the 2 windows had water dripping from it. A small roach was on one of the bathroom towels. The bathroom sink drains so slow that I had to floss & brush my teeth in the shower. The shower head was really dirty, but to be fair most hotels don't seem to clean this. I actually took the filthy shower head off just to shower. The wall outlets were practically useless. Anything that you plugged into them usually fell right out just seconds later. So I couldn't charge my phone. There's much more, but hotels.com limits the amount of text you can put here.
