Amazing view
We had a wonderful stay. The porch had amazing views and was comfortable even in the winter. The kitchen was large and incredibly well equipped. The cottage was beautifully decorated and had lots of natural light.

Didn’t want to go home :)
Our family had the most relaxing long weekend. We celebrated my husband and son's birthdays. Even though there was some rain we still got to enjoy the fire pit and the kids loved kayaking. The home is so beautiful and inviting. We enjoyed how cozy and relaxing it was for all of us. The view is spectacular. We enjoyed our mornings looking out into the lake. I loved the convenience of having the washer and dryer as well. And it was such nice surprise to be there during the pumpkin festival. Thank you David for being so welcoming and helpful. We loved staying at the house and hope to come back and celebrate more birthdays!

Perfect place to stay in Maine
This was a perfect place to stay in Maine for a cozy weekend! The view is so tranquil and beautiful and the cozy sunroom at the back of the house makes you want to relax all day. The house was spotless and had all the amenities I needed. I have rented many many homes and David is by far the best host I’ve had!

15 Days in Damariscotta
Every aspect of the house, stay and use met and exceeded our expectations, and we slept very well there indeed. David our host was very helpful, kind and informative and we enjoyed very much the opportunities to chat with him. We were visiting friends and family in Lincoln and adjacent counties and doing genealogical research too, as well relaxing and enjoying the Damariscotta area.

A true gem
David is an excellent host, and the cottage is the perfect get away. David met us upon our arrival to walk us through the cottage and gave us the instructions we needed for our stay. He recommended some restaurants in the area and suggested things to check out. He even provided a welcome basket with crackers, English muffins, and a blueberry jam that is incredible. There was also some sliced cheese in the refrigerator for us. The back porch is bright and comfortable, and if you stay, this is where you'll definitely want to spend your time. Both bedrooms are off the porch and if you leave the blinds open, you can watch the sun rise over the water. He also provided three kayaks with safety vest so we could explore Salt Bay. We brough two floats, but to be honest, having to step on the silty bottom was uncomfortable for us so we only floated one time. We didn't have time to use the firepit, but it is in a great spot to overlook the water while gathering with your group. Both my wife and I thought it was one of the most relaxing vacations we've had and hope to return there with friends next year.

Amazing location
This is really an ideal spot for getaway. Only regret was not booking longer trip. Excellent, clean home better than advertised with gorgeous views and kayaks and water access. If you sleep in the porch you are up with the sun. Highly recommend this cozy hime with all the amenities.

Great Experience!
We had a great experience at Beckoning Bay Cottage. I wish that the porch also had air conditioning (it got really hot while we were there), but otherwise a great stay, and David was wonderful!

A Charming Cottage on the River
Beckoning Bay is a lovely cottage located right on the Damariscotta River. The location is fantastic and is close to many restaurants, shops, and attractions. It is also the perfect location for many day trips. We loved sitting by the river and watching the Bald Eagles and other wild life. Just a very peaceful, serene location.

Beautiful, comfortable and welcoming
This is one of the loveliest rental properties we've ever stayed at. The location overlooking the water is superb. The screened porch that runs the length of the house is the jewel of the house and is a sheer delight. The house is well laid out and well furnished, with good beds, ample and comfortable seating and good lighting. The two bedrooms and living room each open to the enclosed porch. The place is scrupulously clean and the kitchen is well-supplied and easy to work in. David met us on our arrival, made us feel very welcome and provided suggestions for restaurants and other points of interest. One of the high points was our visit to the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay, which is only half an hour away. We can't recommend Beckoning Bay Cottage highly enough.

Terrific Waterfront Cottage
We had a terrific stay at Beckoning Bay Cottage…the porch is wonderful space-length of whole house! The kitchen is large and well stocked with necessities and the welcome basket David provides was much appreciated! We would definitely recommend staying here. Excellent location for area day trips. Even with a large family wedding during their brief stay, so pleased you visited our area's very special Pemaquid Lighthouse...It has been warning ships for over 165 years of the rugged rock ledges on which it sits, and as soon a post COVID permits, allows visitors to climb its winding steps to actually see its Fresnel lens up close! Everyone "loves" Beckoning Bay's large porch!

Best part of our trip to Maine
There are words to describe how pleased we are with properly. We where greeted with a smile, bottle of wine,cheese and English muffins. It’s been a while since we’ve been had a vRBo with this kind of treatment. The house was impeccable…every single spot was inviting. We love the time on the water on fire at night . My only complaint if we could stay long enough. We definitely will be back and hope this property remains available for a long time

If I could have stayed a month, I would have. The property was serene, relaxing, and just what the doctor ordered. The wildlife abounds on the river, and bird watching was a delight. The property is conveniently located to many tourist locations and eateries.

Beautiful cottage, quiet atmosphere, Best host ever
The 4 of us traveled from MI to ME (never been there) Beautiful color in Oct. The cottage was the best. Details were outstanding. It felt like home just coming thru the door. Darling decor, and so welcoming, we all loved it (even the guys). It feels like off the beaten path, so quiet. The lake is so relaxing as we watched the seal, the crane was beautiful, seagulls and geese. What a memory. The cottage has everything, good beds, working windows for that cool fall breeze, wonderful showers, washer and dryer, iron and ironing board, a great size pantry to store your goodies, lots of small appliances, an awning over the ample size deck and a nice dock very close. The fireplace was always on in the evening as we played cards and games. Now about David, he is the BEST host you could ask for. Always a pleasant voice when you call and ask him a question & so very friendly when he meets you. You feel right at home with him. (We all loved him) so nice and caring too.. The welcome basket he had for us was a nice surprise. Everything for a snack and for the following mornings breakfast. How thoughtful. This was one of the best vacations ever. We Love You David. Hoping to come back.

Best place to stay to explore the Mid-coast of Maine
Just WOW! Location was perfect to make as our base for many day trips throughout the mid-coast of Maine. The combination of amenities, the location, and very close proximity to a few great restaurants (because despite all the amenities, who wants to cook on vacation?) made this an incredible and memorable stay. We especially loved relaxing by the outdoor firepit or on the remarkably cozy porch. Pictures do not do this place justice. Wish we had more time to have used the kayaks. And, while the cottage is charming, the owner is equally charming. David met us at the cabin to provide a tour of the property and gave us many helpful recommendations for our trip. We could have chatted with him all day as he is a very friendly, knowledgeable, and interesting man. We have also stayed at many rental cabins but this was the first time we were gifted with an unexpected and generous goody basket by the owner on our arrival. There is so much to say about this lovely cottage. Thanks to David for sharing this lovely home.

Great location
We were the first rental of the season and really enjoyed our stay. David was a great host who welcomed us in person and went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed. We had rain for two days on our trip and there was no better place to spend the day curled up on a couch with a good book and a glass of wine than this sun deck with the beautiful view. This house and town is such a great location to use as a base for visiting many of the beautiful cities in the area. We ventured out each day to a different town/sailing trip/lighthouse/fort, etc. Would highly recommend dinner and/or lunch at King Eiders.

Great gem tucked away with fab water views
This rental is such a gem, amazing water views expand the entire back half of the house. Cozy gas fireplace invites relaxation with fireside rocking chairs. Open kitchen to living room allows us to cook meals while watching our little one play. Could ask for a friendlier host and accommodations. Can’t wait to return!

Newcastle Retreat
Beckoning Bay Cottage sitting along the Great Salt Bay offers a wonderful spot to relax and enjoy nature. Kayaking in the bay a pair of Ospreys and their nest were spotted, along with several herons and kingfishers. David has provided a beautiful place to rest and relax. The house was immaculate and very comfortable. There are many beautiful places to explore and hike in this wonderful part of Maine. We had a great week. Thank you David.

Damarscotta Getaway
House and Lawn in great shape. Very comfortable. Nice Firepit for evening cocktails, but unusable because of the mosquitos. They should use a Mosquito service because they were in terrible force. The dock was very nice and kayaks clean and fun. The owner should be more descriptive about the lake water because it is 'brackish' meaning a mixture of salt water and fresh water and tidal. Their picture appears to show a fresh water lake very good for swimming off the dock which it is not. The owner 'David' very good guy! So this review is just 'guidance' for future consideration. Overall I rate this property very well.

Great Salt Bay is where a 12 mile lake to the north meets the salt water estuary from the Ocean called the Damariscotta River. It is tidal and its mix of fresh and salt water results in 4 to 5 foot tides rather than 8 to 10 foot if it were all salt water; also at least 10 degrees warmer too!

Lovely property
David was a great host, always available to explain anything we needed help with. The house was clean, grounds beautiful and the property even came with firewood for the fire pit (including kindling)! Everything was in perfect working order. Beauty on the Great Salt Bay
Located on the Great Salt Bay, this home allowed us the opportunity to kayak and canoe the calm water, enjoying the seals and other inhabitants, as well as the beauty of the area. Our group took advantage of this during our stay! The location was prime to Pemaquid (Lighthouse and Lobster Co-op), and Boothbay Harbor, one of our most memorable towns to visit. The home itself is comfortable and very inviting. Upon arrival, David met us and took the time to show us around the house. We didn't expect, but certainly appreciated the basket of goodies!

Great Vacation

The way life should be!
Beautiful, peaceful home and we throughly enjoyed our stay. The windows overlooking the lawn and water are to die for. There is plenty of seating and light to just enjoy life and watch the seals play. Well stocked, nice bathrooms and David is a fabulous host. He offered excellent recommendations on where to go delightful meals. We give two thumbs up on this lovely home.

Fabulous 'Sew-cation"!
A lovely spot for two good friends to spend a few days quilting, everything was spotless and the home was well-equipped and well-furnished. We were in the midst of a bit of a heat wave, but the air conditioning kept up comfortable. I'm Ready to Go Back!!!
This was our first trip to the Newcastle/Damariscotta region of Maine and it won't be our last. We loved being away from the summer crowds in Camden, Bar Harbor and Boothbay Harbor, and yet, this area is the a great place to make your home base while you explore those other areas. There is a picturesque little harbor, wonderful shops and a few good restaurants right in town. David's property is wonderful - we could have lived the entire week on the sunporch and been happy. Windows open, breeze blowing and quiet. Just perfect for us. In addition, David is the perfect host. You can't go wrong with this lovely little house and location unless you need lots of noise and crowds.

Well after returning for nine years this family can no longer be called "guests". They are like our Family! Love it when their children refer to the Cottage as "their cottage"!

Gem on the Water
David met us when we arrived and gave my husband a tour, which proved to be very helpful. The cottage is full of light, clean, and spacious. The sliding doors across the entire cottage let in lots of light and allow great access to the very large porch. It is larger than it appears in the pictures with lots of room, chairs, and sofas for relaxing. The views of the water are beautiful and it was lots of fun to go out in the canoe and kayaking. There’s a little downtown area for dining and shopping. A large Hannaford’s is also close for grocery shopping. The location is perfect for a day trip either to Portland (South) or Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park (north). We really enjoyed our stay. It was the perfect venue to disconnect in comfort and peace.

Perfect venue for our (very) small wedding party!
This property is even better than it looks in pictures. We were married in Boothbay Harbor on 11-17-18 and stayed here the night before and the night of our wedding. Our small family of 12 was able to enjoy cocktails, dinner and cake after the wedding, overlooking the amazing river view and (almost) full moon. We had everything we needed for hosting a casual dinner after the ceremony including parking for 4 families and plenty of room for mingling and visiting. David was amazing and accommodating, allowing us to rearrange the porch furniture to seat 12 for dinner. Do NOT hesitate to rent! This is a lovely spot and David is a responsive and caring host.

We often have guests celebrating anniversaries, but this is only the second time in nine years Beckoning Bay Cottage has hosted a wedding couple together with family festivities--always a pleasure and a sense of specialness. For a Cottage owner, this is fun! (By the way, you did not mention the five inches of snow that arrived the same day you did! I suppose as Mainers and being November, this is not a big surprise....)

This was our best HomeAway experience ever!
My best advice to anyone looking for an enchanting place on the water that is close to nearby activities is simply "Book this cottage"! The view, the location and all the quality details of this cottage made our stay absolutely wonderful. It's so incredibly satisfying to arrive at a cottage you've chosen through photos and find it not only as nice as it looks but better.....and we did! The cottage was immaculate, well equipped, had quality linens and was indeed charming. David, the owner, has taken pride in this property and is a wonderful, engaging host. Once you stay there, you will want to return again and again. Prepare to fall in love with Beckoning Bay!
