The lighthouse, established in 1749 at Beavertail Point, was the granddaddy of all Rhode Island lighthouses and only the third one—after Boston Harbor and Nantucket’s Brant Point—in the American colonies.
Today is a museum that features a collection of information, artifacts, and conversation about the history and site of the third-oldest lighthouse in North America.
The lighthouse is located in Beavertail State Park at the end of Beavertail Road, at the southern tip of Conanicut Island. There is free parking. The grounds are open to the public.

“We had a lovely stay on Catherine St. for a wedding weekend and the accomodations were excellent. The room was cozy, the bed was very comfortable, and the fireplace and kitchenette were added bonuses. The breakfast was also delicous and enought to fuel us for lots of walking and touring. It was so convenient to be able to park in the inn's lot right in front of the house. We will definitely be back!”

“Location was PERFECT. It was wonderful to have all of the famous and popular Newport food spots so close and even the Cliff Walk was within walking distance. We never used a car while there, just an uber from airport and back. The VRBO is inside a cute historic house with a couple different units. We could hear the other tenants sometimes coming up and down the steps as the steps and front door of building are right outside the apartment door. But other than that we couldn’t hear anybody. "The hotel’s location is great, not far from main street. They also offer a free Shuttle bus to take customers to the busiest area in town, so, you don’t have to worry about parking ! We reserved a water view room. It had two big windows , one of the curtain is broken, and they said they are out of batteries, so can not fix it during our stay, so we had to keep it closed all the time. So we can not see the water view from our bed, also because it is too broken, it can not really block the light either! We pay more for a water view room, but end up had no view and no good sleep! Pleople who works in the bar restaurant are really friendly, but the environment is filthy! A lot feathers came out of decoration pillows! Not very comfortable visually! "
