Cozy and bright shoreline studio apartment - walk to beach and row to boat
122 Sauga Avenue is located in the tucked away neighborhood of Shore Acres on Sauga Point.
Founded over one hundred years ago, this quiet, coastal gem meets the warm summer waters
of Narragansett Bay and Wickford Harbor.
Watching the sunrise from Blue Beach (just one block away) You can view the calm morning
waters of the West Passage and witness the beauty and tranquility that caught the attention of
Rhode Island’s first settlers four centuries ago. With summers stretching through September
and waters remaining warm above seventy degrees Sauga Point is a small New England
paradise. The area allows for great sailing and all water sports with easy access to the towns
and villages Newport, Wickford, Jamestown, Westerly and Narragansett. Ferries connect to
Martha’s Vinyard and Block Island daily from Quonset Point just down the road, or from Point
Judith and the port of Galilee.
On the opposite shore of Our small peninsula is the neighborhood boat ramp that Accesses
Wickford harbor and Mill Cove. With some quick research you may pick up a guest mooring or
slip at one of the many Wharfs or Marinas that are also the Mariners gateway to the historic
village.
Our house is located a few minutes walk from the ramp where you can come ashore from the
well protected mooring field. We have our own family history here as well. This is where we
learned to sail, swim and experience all the greatness of this area. Our Dad, Joseph did the
same as a boy who then became a sailing Captain of the sea. Years ago he recognized the
“perfect place to live” from his boat. He rowed to the ramp, walked up the street and then
discovered a corner home with a little garage in the back. Dad always loved things that
“needed a little work” so 122 Sauga became his new home ashore. The garage has always
been referred to as “Snorks Place”. Named so by the painted words over the door of the
soon-to-be workshop that always needed work of its own. Dad rebuilt the house and after
that, replaced the work shack with a top floor apartment. The apartment is still named Snorks
Place or just Snorks as our family and friends refer to it.
Dad built Snorks as a cozy and bright get away nest with the feel of a ships cabin with wood
floors and galley kitchenette. A Murphy Bed allows for the enlargement of floor space when
needed as well as the Head (small bathroom). and lots of windows for great natural light. many
of these features always remind us of the boats we grew up sailing.
Our Pop loved to share the amazing experiences of land and sea to all those who adventured
as well as educating and guiding those who would become Adventurers.
Dad would say “Welcome aboard”! We say Welcome to Snorks!
