Beautiful location and well maintained. Food and service were decent. Solid four star hotel, that has the potential to be an 4.5 or even 5 star with the right updates. Customer service all around was good but opportunity to be elevated. For example, the Royal benefits were lacking. We were bothered that there was no policing of people utilizing the VIP Royal space. Hotel should do a better job of ensuring those that pay for that benefit (ie pool, hot tub, space at the beach) are able to exclusively use it versus the free for all that occurred during our stay. Also the check-in associates need to take a customer service 101 course. That is your first point of contact with your guests, and the Occidental staff at check-in did not seem pleasant or welcoming. Guests were treated more as an inconvenience. Many of the waitstaff and bartenders were pleasant. Had a nice time. For the right price may go back. Just wish they would fix a few of these issues and elevate their customer service.
