Outdated, overpriced, and not worth the headache

The bad… dead bugs all around, found a dead mole in the basement kitchen next to the fridge, the steps going downstairs are very slippery, etc. There are postings everywhere in the house stating you’ll be fined for anything, literally. For example, there’s a fire pit out back that sits directly under a low hanging tree with no chairs around it. If we were to bring chairs over, we were nervous of getting fined $1,500 as it states on multiple postings if any outside furniture is moved. The property is also outdated - the few rooms in the basement reek of mold & mildew. 95% of the doors to the house don’t lock. You’re charged a couple hundred for a cleaning fee but still have to clean or else you’re fined. Standard for this app, but the rules were extreme. The good… the house is fairly large - plenty of space for activities.

We couldn't have asked for a better set up for a large group. The house could use a little TLC (loose handles and knobs, dinged walls, and glitchy appliances), but nothing major, and overall we had a great stay. We'll be going back next year for sure!

Less than desirable

The first thing that hits you when you walk in is the smell of a nursing home mixed with sewage. It looked like it hasn't been properly cleaned in a long time. There were used Jello-Shot cups out at the pool area, candy wrapper left in the main living room, a hoop earing left in one of the bedrooms, mildew in the showers. Not to mention most faucets leaked, the faucet in the kitchen is about to fall right off. Only half the appliances worked. The inside hot tub was colder than the pool. The house is extremely underwhelming for the price.

Great place for a family reunion

This spacious house gives plenty of room so that the 27 of us never felt cramped. The pool and hot tub were enjoyed by kids and adults. Railey was responsive and professional to work with. Fantastic setting!

Truly Amazing!

We had a fantastic time at the Herrington Manor House. This lovely house had great amenities, indoor and outdoor. Very spacious well decorated rooms, beautifully well kept grounds. Our family enjoy every moment of our time there, we’ll definitely be back.

Nice place buuuuut!!!!

It’s a good place but the cleaning of the house it’s not so good, sheet of bed smell like sweat and dirty! The wifi was not working well, the movie theater only work with dish! The pool was amazing and the jacuzzi were the best thing! I would give this house a 3 stars! Hope this review help we spend 3 night there July 1-4

A Mishandled Gem

We rented this property through VRBO because the Railey Vacations folks would not return our many calls and emails. The Railey signs are everywhere but it is a mystery how places get rented through them. If you want a great place for a large family to congregate, this is the place. Just be forewarned of the issues I will talk about later. The property is a gem and the grounds are fabulous but it is far away from Deep Creek. The nearby town is Oakland and it is worth a visit. The home is a real throwback from the eighties. The marble foyer and master his/her vanities are amazing, Marble carved toilet!, gemstone vanity fixtures!, Venetian sconces and chandeliers!. The pool is truly hotel worthy. The rooms are well appointed and the cleaning service for the linens and bathrooms does a great job. The outdoor spaces feature a fun basketball court, a place for making Smores, and lots of outdoor seating. The kids had fun riding their bikes in the long driveway. The game room has lots to do and the movie theater is worn but nice. My guess due to the size and views this is a great wedding place and gets rented a lot and the owners are just letting things go to pot. My husband said you can’t look anywhere without finding something to fix. The chairs in the kitchen are literally falling apart with rungs missing (a real hazard) and the seats are camouflaged from stains, as is the carpet beneath them. There was a review from two years ago listing the disrepair of the kitchen cabinets and it has only gotten worse. We just left one drawer open because it was too hard to deal with. Don’t plan on having cereal because there were tons of knives and forks and only two spoons between the two kitchens. We had to wash everything before using in the kitchen and many pans were just downright gross. (It is up to the previous tenant to clean the refrigerator and dishes and pans so you are at the mercy of who every rents before you.) For the price you pay, the kitchen should be adequate and clean. One oven doesn’t work and one microwave is broken. Could have been that way for years. A knob is missing in one bathroom, some sinks doesn’t drain well and one toilet was not working. The master suite bedside table lamp was broken and just left that way. Some door handles don’t work or are loose. The outside gazebos need paint and repair. I could go on. The WiFi is sketchy because you are so remote, so just enjoy your vacation. If you ignore the negatives it is delightful.

Exactly what we needed

Our extended family spent Christmas week here during the lockdown. It was like we had a boutique hotel to ourselves! Board games, hiking, swimming, big happy family meals. We had a wonderful time. Thank you.

Great property

The property is huge, with a lake, fishing dock and lots of outdoor space. The house has a lot of gathering space, multiple kitchen and great room, most of which we didn't use. The ballroom is immense, but mot very useful for a family if 18. Wonderful theater and game room close to the kitchen. Indoor swimming pool with a jacuzzi, so we didn't need to use the two outdoor jacuzzis. The recreation area in McHenry, which is 25 minutes away, has many adventure sports, lake activities and water activities. The Oakland Golf Course is literally 5 minutes from the property. Way too much to do, but not enough time.
