Funky 50's beach house

Come and enjoy the special micro climate of Otaki Beach. Relax on the deck with a view out to a private garden setting or take an easy three minute stroll to the beach. This Funky Fifties beach house has a bamboo bar, wood burner and a wide choice of vinyl records and CDs to listen to, many of which could be your very own favourites. In this modern age a real novelty for some! Close proximity to beach shop, restaurants, markets, outlet shops and urban centre plus the Sunday market opposite New World is well worth a visit. In season you can pick your own herbs from our very own garden. An hours drive from Wellington/Palmerston North. Otaki beach is another one of those well kept secret spots that unless you visit you won't discover for yourself. Don't take our word for it read the amazing feedback left by our previous guests!
Special conditions:
Wifi available for general use only. 1GB per night. Downloading and Streaming not permitted. Wifi is monitored and extra time can be purchased if required.
Minimum stay 2 nights for up to 2 guests. Extra adults $20 per person. Cacti garden with views to the north and eastern hills. The bach suits single, couples or a family of four. May not suit families with toddlers due to the vast range of collectables on display. Public holidays including Easter, Queen's Birthday, Labour Weekend and Christmas holidays - preference given to bookings of 3 nights or more.

NOTE: Under Kiwi bach tradition you are expected to: Clean the house and do the dishes before you leave; Bring your own linen (towels/sheets/tea towels); Cleaner can be arranged if required approx $60-$120

The outside deck is excellent and the back garden very good. The inside of the house is too cluttered with ornaments, decorations, furnishings, etc. and needs pairing down. It looks like an op-shop and smells very musty. The house is a close walk to the beach, river, shop, bus stop, and cafes.

We had fun looking at all the quirky memorabilia, much of it sparking memories of our childhood and grandparents' homes, even if it was a bit of sensory overload! For a couple in their 70s/80s it was a journey back. The decor was quirky & familiar. The back verandah was a gem catching all day sun. The perfect place for a glass of wine. Amenities were perfectly adequate & spotlessly clean. I’d hate to have to do the dusting though. Chitra checked in to make sure everything was ok - a good communicator.

Such a pleasant host!

We loved how clean the cottage was. There was a problem with a window and it was fixed immediately, which was awesome! My partner loved the 'kiwi feel' however, I felt it was cluttered unnecessarily with too much furnture. We're average sized people, and used to a bigger bed, so we found the "double " beds too small. Also, we went home again, to get our own BBQ, as the house is open plan, with no extractor fan, and the food smell the first night went through the house. The BBQ there, is really only a small metal bowl with a wire grill, and needs charcoal, which we didn't find. We were there a week, and it would have been good to not have to dispose of our rubbish ourselves. However, it was unusually cold, and the fire place was awesome and plenty of wood was supplied. The shower is good too. The outside area is great! A large back yard and big deck. The house is a 5 minute walk from the ocean beach, which was great! The owner is lovely and easy to work with. Thank you!

Overpriced

The bach is a quirky 1960s property that was clean and tidy. For the price, we thought it was too expensive. On leaving the property, we were required to take all rubbish with us. This is not satisfactory for people who are away from home and have no option but to dispose (illagally) of household rubbish in the Council Bins

Great Stay

Great place to stay and location was perfect. One thing to take note of is there is no TV reception. We didn’t realise until the owner sent the paperwork a couple of days before we came over. Lots of DVDs however. It didn’t bother us at all but might do for someone with children. Other than that nice place, thank you.

Perfect summer break at the beach!

Peaceful, relaxing bach close to the beach. The back covered deck area is a perfect spot to read and even in the rain provided some nice shelter. Great record collection, books and magazines. Friendly host who made the whole experience an enjoyable one.

A NIGHTMARE!!!

This home was very dirty, with cobwebs in many rooms. There were cockroaches and a horrific ant infestation. The owner, the day before our trip, said not to leave food out in the kitchen, as that attracts ants. We did that. I asked her to hire professional cleaners, but clearly no one cleaned it before we arrived. She said she left ant traps in the garden, but that was a lie. My leather purse in the bedroom was swarming with ants inside and outside of it, ruining numerous items. I have been trying to communicate with the owner about this, as I want a refund, but she is rudely ignoring me. We highly recommend NOT staying in this unhygienic, very dirty home filled with cockroaches and ants!!
