San Lázaro y Otero are two adjacent neighbourhoods in the south of Oviedo, the capital of Asturias in northern Spain. They are a few minutes away from the historic centre and a wealth of natural attractions.

Embrace the outdoors with a visit to Winter Park, one of the largest green spaces in the city. Stroll along paths amid pine, chestnut, cedar and maple trees. The park is also home to the Palace of Children, a large indoor playground with lots of attractions for children such as a climbing wall, a submarine simulator and video games.

If your visit to the park has given you an appetite for the outdoors, head into the countryside surrounding Oviedo for hikes and bicycle rides. Asturias is celebrated for its mesmerizing green landscape of fields, forests and mountains. One of its biggest highlights is the Picos de Europa, which is spread across several regions. Drive here in less than 3 hours from San Lázaro y Otero. Participate in outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking and whitewater rafting.

Another Asturias highlight is cider. This regional drink has many varieties. Sample some in the specialist cider houses known as sidrerias. Try a few local specialties at the Sidreria San Lázaro. Watch as your server pours the beverage in the traditional way by holding a bottle above head height while the glass remains close to the knees. This approach is said to enhance the drink’s flavour.

From San Lázaro y Otero neighbourhoods the city centre is just a short drive or bus ride away. You can also walk the distance in about 15 minutes. One of the principal reasons for making the trip is to see its historical buildings. These include the flamboyant Gothic Oviedo Cathedral, the early 18th-century Camposagrado Palace and the Baroque Town Hall.

With gorgeous architecture and awesome natural scenery on the doorstep, San Lázaro y Otero neighbourhoods provide easy access to cultural, historical and natural treasures.
