  • In 1790 a swift moving lava flow leveled the forest here and drained away, leaving behind a new forest of "lava trees". These hollow rock columns were formed when the lava wrapped around the cool tree trunks and quickly solidified. When the molten lava drained away, these rock columns were left standing. The columns are hollow because the tree trunks themselves were incinerated during the process, but only after the rock had cooled enough to hold it's shape. If you look closely, you can sometimes see the texture of the tree bark in the rock molds.

The property is located in a very calm and peaceful area, surrounded by lush greenery and chirping birds, and is conveniently close to many Hilo-side attractions. We especially enjoyed having breakfast on the patio while taking in the beautiful natural surroundings.We had a little difficulty locating the property upon arrival, as there are multiple units with the same address. However, Chris was very responsive and helped us promptly whenever we needed assistance.

Peaceful & quiet. Good neighbor, close to food, stores, restaurants. Clean! Had a wonderful stay & definitely recommend! Laundry room, perfect spot, a bunk bed for the kids, recliner to sit & chill watch tv. A perfect little spot in the front of the house to hang out. Choke windows & 2 sliding doors for plenty of breeze. Thank you again!

Perfect stay in a quiet neighborhood. It was close to everything we wanted to do including the volcano. Clean and comfortable. the only thing we found ourselves missing was a microwave but we were able to make due with everything else available which was perfect. Thank you for the comfortable stay. Will be staying here again if we visit another time.

Rent this cabin for sure!

Perfect little house located just outside Pahoa. 5 Minute drive puts you downtown, or on the HI-way to whatever destination for the day! Very clean and comfortable. If you are traveling to Pahoa it is perfect size for a family of 3 or 4 I recommend this spot !

Beyond expectations.

At this price point I expected little more than a little plywood with a pad on it for a mattress. Nope! This was a very comfortable bed, great location, the whole place was pleasantly appointed with everything we needed plus a little. The washing machine was such a nice bonus. So comfortable, so peaceful, just to sit on the deck in the morning with coffee in the sunshine. We were beyond pleased. Thank you for making our experience so pleasant. Would recommend to anyone.
