Beautiful but insecure GROUND floor apartment [not advertised]
This apartment was clean, cozy and in a great location. The upstairs loft is cute, but awkward for anyone over 5’ tall to navigate.
GROUND Floor courtyard apartment with entrance via a keypad to courtyard. Despite it being a locked area, there is a lot of traffic in the courtyard at all hours of the day as several businesses are located in the courtyard. The apartment is mostly floor to ceiling windows (including the door & French Door style windows that open into the courtyard) making it easy to see everything inside despite closing the heavy curtains which only partially cover the windows.
Unfortunately, thieves were easily able to force open the locked French door windows to easily access the apartment and steal our carryon luggage within an hour of us leaving the apartment on our 1st day there. Paris Conciergerie & VRBO were empathetic, but denied responsibility for the lax security [“I totally understand your situation, and I am very sorry for that. We are not responsable of this…”]. The police stated that “locked courtyard” was a joke as many people knew the code to get in & that the host/apartment owners were responsible.
In short, while this apartment is in a great location, it is INSECURE unless changes are made. The host did not help in a meaningful way other than to give advice. Obviously, this incident negatively changed our trip as we spent over half of it recovering needed items instead of enjoying Paris.
