Recognised as the first psychiatric hospital
in the world. Renowned in the 2nd century AD, although it is known that a sacred site existed, as ealry as the 4th century BC.

#History

In western Turkey, most people rush to Ephesus and forget about the lesser known ruins of Pergamon, perched on a mountain near the town of Bergama.

While not as large or impressive as Ephesus, the location is absolutely stunning, and there are far fewer tourists there.

Get a taxi for the ride up and on the way down, take the tram and then walk. The windy streets back into town are colorful and very photogenic as well.
